For anyone wondering, the "Slingshot effect" that the "Earth Engine" people talked about is called the Oberth effect which states that you get more speed out the same amount of thrust if you are closer to a object you are orbiting. It sounds like it could generate free energy (but it can't), the problem is that to even utilize the effect you'd need two things to orbit in a machine that preferably isn't the size or weight of the moon.
@tsm688
@tsm688 7 ай бұрын
they mixed their metaphors. sometimes it's the oberth effect, sometimes its flywheel, sometimes its magnets.
@hedgehog3180
@hedgehog3180 3 ай бұрын
Also the energy isn't free, gravitional assists technically steal a tiny ammount of orbital velocity from the body doing the assist.
@FlamingKetchup
@FlamingKetchup 3 ай бұрын
You're confusing the Oberth effect with gravity assists. The Oberth effect means you get a bigger change in *kinetic energy* from the same change in velocity the faster you are moving, as kinetic energy is proportional to the square of velocity, and therefore you get more from the same increase the faster you are already moving (like how going from 0^2=0 to 1^2=1 is only an increase of 1, but 1^2=1 to 2^2=4 is 3, and then 5 with 2^2=4 to 3^2=9, and so on. Vice versa, going from 3^2=9 to 2^2=4 is a bigger decrease than 2^2 to 1^2). Conservation of energy is not violated because the propellant ejected to move the spaceship also loses more kinetic energy from its change in velocity.
@FlamingKetchup
@FlamingKetchup 3 ай бұрын
*Or the propellant gains more energy, in the case of the spaceship burning to slow down and lose kinetic energy
@niscent_
@niscent_ 15 күн бұрын
@@FlamingKetchup yup. simplified: the oberth effect allows a more efficient use of your fuel, by also taking advantage of the higher kinetic energy within the fuel itself when you (and your fuel) are going faster. it's used by boosting at the lowest point of your orbit, thus the point where your rocket is going the fastest.

Would love a video about coherers. They absolutely were a thing in early radio because tubes and transistors didn't exist yet. They pass more current in the presence of RF, but need to be shaken every now and then to reset the resistance. And they're super inefficient. Marconi used one in the over-the-horizon radio tests - The Secret Life of Machines did an episode on it.
@kensmith5694
@kensmith5694 10 ай бұрын
Yes, the common way to do it was to use one of those electrically powered bells or buzzers. When the armature of the buzzer went back and forth, it tapped in the coherer to shake the iron filings loose.

In semiconductors, we use the effect shown at 11:04 for dry etching, which is basically a very controlled removal of materials from the surface of your sample via plasma. It's called inductively coupled plasma, or ICP.

11:04 I remember a similar thing from school. The tube is filled with an noble gas and there is a high frequency voltage in the wire that goes around it. This creates a rapidly changing magnetic field which in turn induces a circular electric field in the noble gas, which results in light due to ionisation and recombination. The handheld thingy is probably some other electromagnet which influences the fields

The Hutcheson effect is basically what happens when you are exposing objects that seem to be magnetically innert to high voltage and high strength magnetic fields. This basically means that the accumulated electrons on a surface of objects allows the objects to be manipulated by the magnetic fields when they wouldn't have been otherwise. The problem is that you need absolutely insane amounts of energy to make it work.

Jedstanaland Please read the entire message and give me your thoughts..You can research everything I'm talking about even the summer some people are calling him musical Tesla coils others are calling them musical plasma arc generators.. but seriously if you watch videos of these things running I seen a couple different times where the plasma looked like it was very rigidly structuralized or appeared to be this way and what better way to shield something then with plasma and if that plasma Arc is DC current and it's high amperage it could electrolyze water and you need salt in water to electrolyze it so I mean it makes perfect sense why it's traveling in the ocean at this speed and this is coming from the Pentagon which blew my mind and there's videos of it thanks for your time if you do read this
@jedstanaland2897
@jedstanaland2897 9 ай бұрын
@drewstudlino5885 Plasma field generators that produce fields up to the size of a small vehicle exist in real life and are able to take an atmosphere pressure total difference of two atmospheres. The way it works is fairly straightforward and it is able to potentially stop the momentum of most objects with the approximate momentum of a 9mm in addition to most likely melting it. The fields that are produced are almost always pulsed though the speed they pulse at is what gives them the ability to hold atmosphere or stop objects and melt them. They are also able to produce sounds which are much higher quality than any speaker you would normally come across though they typically require higher energy draw and more protective measures when in use. They are also not typically subject to volume distortion which most speakers are. Basically if you try to play a sound too loudly or too softly with a normal the sounds are typically highly distorted and can easily cause what is known as top and low end distortion. Basically what happens is the sounds start to sound funny like instead of a "C" you might instead get a "G" or hear rattling or vibration of the speaker diaphragm. The biggest problem with using a Plasma speaker is with the bass and the fact that it is almost non-existent with a Plasma speaker. The best part of a Plasma speaker system is that the energy draw to produce high quality and high volume sound in comparison to normal speakers is significantly lower but it is also plagued by the requirement for high voltage and good containment for the Plasma to prevent it from lighting stuff on fire. The voltage is very high though the actual power draw is relatively low. Lastly like I said before they are actually able to prevent the exchange of gas and sometimes liquids up to a total difference in pressure of two atmospheres. Anything more and it simply can't hold the field together also the pressure difference between the two sides of the field must be changed relatively slowly to prevent blowout where it basically loses containment and can't reestablish the field. You can build one of these for yourself for between 20 and 100 dollars just remember that the more you invest from the start the better it will probably be in the end. Last thing you need to know is that you need to have what is known as a solid state spark gap to be able to get the best results. This will require you to arrange transistors, resistors, diodes ect in the correct arrangement or purchase a suitable substitute for them to work properly. No two are exactly alike and you will have slightly different results no matter how exactly you attempt to make them act the exact same way.

@@jedstanaland2897 my jaw about feel out socket !! unbelievable! that just made my evening absolutely fascinating, my inclination is great secrets lie in the low frequency you said bass is almost non existent. lifes taught me the tiny details hold the most information.. to understand what prevents the low frequency could be key, maybe low frequency is something similar to the effect a one way diode has an alternating current in a sense it's not exactly perfect DC current it's pulsating. and it wouldn't be one bit surprising to find out that diode utilizes a low frequency to achieve this.. just by the nature of pulses this is personal speculation and im really unqualified in rhe subject but i can promise its unbelievably fascinating to me my eagerness too understand helps tremendously. but suppose my hypothesis has some evidence of truth, lol im so out of my league on this topic but would a low frequency pulsating current transmitted as bass what do you believe the outcome.. do you think it would increase the overall structural Integrity of the plasma field...anything you wanna share aiorfida@bartender.net id love to see thanks for the response👍👍👍

3:30 The coherer one may not be fake because they were used to detect EM waves in the early days, at least that's what I have read regarding the history of RF transmission, related to G. Marconi and J.C. Bose. The simpler construction is basically some iron filings in a container (and later with mercury-iron junction) which becomes part of the RF detector loop, and when EM wave hits the loop antenna, the metal particles form tiny cold welds and closes the loop and to reset the coherer, the container is gently tapped to break the cold-welds, (the tapping to decohere is shown in the video). The lighter produces high-voltage pulses, which is basically the acceleration of charged particles (e-), thus, it probably generates a broad-spectrum EM pulse to be detected. Now, such device can be made at home with Aluminium-foil balls or not, I will patiently wait for ElectroBoom to explore & confirm :D

There's a neat old show from the UK called "The Secret Life of Machines", which went into the concept of a Coherer in their episode about Radios. They even made a practical example of this device working by using the spark from a car as a transmitter, and they detected it using the Coherer. It worked remarkably well considering it was just made with filings from a coin.

About magnets in electricity production. Most generators don't actually use permanent magnets. They use electromagnets, funnily enough. The generators then supply their own magnetic fields. So that's definitely not where they get electricity from.

That's one interesting thing I learned from my great uncle, who restores antique cars. A lot of the old cars battery operated the battery in reverse from what modern cars do. Supposedly that also helped to cut back on corrosion and rust in those old vehicles, so long as they're running and operating that is. I'm no expert on the topic, but that salt water vortex reminded me of that tid bit of information.

I think he's getting confused by the concept of a sacrificial anode. That's a thing and batteries also have an anode but in this case they aren't the same. Rust is caused by oxidation and in those reactions electrons do move around so it is sorta like a tiny battery, on structures that have to be underwater for a long you can install a sacrificial anode, which is made of a reactive material like copper, to prevent the rest of the structure from rusting. This only works though because the entire structure is under water so there is always a path to the sacrificial anode, for anything on dry land this doesn't work because rust here happens due to rain or humidity so the oxidation reactions happen in those small bits of water. Also oxidation is how chemical batteries work but that doesn't mean that only electrons move so you can't prevent it simply with a current, oxidation reactions do also involve the actual atoms present. I think what's actually the case is that cars tend to heat up when you run them so whatever water might be on them evaporated, plus just getting them out of what is probably a fairly humid shed also helps and you can prevent a lot of rust damage simply by using something often so parts don't rust together. Like if you just have metal scraping over other metal it'll scrape off a lot of surface rust.

The plasma toroid is pretty cool but also pretty expensive. Unless you live in Russia and have access to custom Noble gas filled glass tubes, it's hard to get your hands on something to make a plasma toroid (or ring discharge device out of). I've also heard you can do it with a much cheaper big neon bulb (it's just not as impressive). I think on that video, they were using a Class E power oscillator feeding power into one coil that inductively coupled to the other coil around the tube and resonated with that doorknob capacitor. BacMacSci and Vidduley (maybe some others) have done some videos on the ring discharge.

3:16 is the copper wire has now become the cathode, so the deposited metal is going into the solution as ions. Usually happens with change in battery polarity, but this is an extra special case - it changes with flip of magnetic polarity too. This is expected since electricity and magnetism are intimately linked, just not an everyday common sense phenomenon.

The smell and discolourations experienced with the salt water vortex experiment can be explained by electrolysis. You electrolysed salt water, where the cathode was copper, and the anode was iron. During this process, the hydrogen develops at the cathode, while oxygen and chlorine develop at the anode. Furthermore, iron ions detached from the anode and deposited on the cathode. This caused a thin sheet of iron to develop on the cathode, thus turning it black. The chlorine left the water as a gas, which explains the strong smell. The hydrogen and oxygen also left the water, but this has no noticeable effects. Within the water, due to a lack of chlorine to combine with, the sodium from the salt reacted with water, thus creating sodium hydroxide, a very strong base. The sodium hydroxide solution bleached out the pepper, thus turning it green. After this, the polarities were swapped. The copper became the anode, and the iron the cathode. At this point, the iron sheet covering the copper anode detached and went back to whence it came. The copper anode then reacted with the oxygen developing at it, thus corroding into cuprous oxide. This turned the surface red. Electrolysis, electroplating, lung damage, bleaching, and corrosion, all in one experiment!

Mehdi be careful im pretty sure when you conducted the salt water vortex with the 12v battery in a nutshell what you did was electrolysis. in that case the yellow substance that formed could have been chlorine. Fun fact: the white bubble that form are actually hydrogen bubbles which can combust if you hold a flame close to it
