Another usage of bottle i saw - 1) This works mostly for the see thru ones - the clear plastic bottles, but if you use a coloured red, orange, green or blue, you will have a nice dimmed and somewhat more hard-to-find light. Put a candle inside it and wrap a paracord handle around the neck and you have quite good wind-resistant lantern. For obvious reasons, it is good to let it spill a little bit, or to drive a few holes in the bottom of the bottle with heated nail or needle, to highten the circulation of the air and stabilize the candle - for that purpose you can drive the nail thru the bottle into the bottom of the candle and than fill it with a toothpick, or a suitable branch, to help it "stand". 2) find the biggest watter canteen you can find (bottle, canister, small barell), make a strap(s) for it, to hang it on your back, with the lid optimally in the middle upper part of your back (behind your head), than drive through the lid a heated needle/nail few times, than fill the bottle with watter of the temperature you prefer (- optimally not extra hot and not icy cold), and than simply bend over a sink, to wash you hair. I understand, that this kind of hygiene is not a survival issue, but the firm watter management, and ability to wash youself when on the go - not needing a fixed shower stand- may be the survival issue after all. 3) actually, the PET bottle can be (possibly with a soggy sock, when stuck into it) used as a canteen to BOIL the watter. It does come with a few potentialy nasty disadvantages, but it is possible. Disadvantages are follows: A) when you will be heating the (bottom of the) bottle, there will be some transfer of chemicals out of the bottle material to your - probably drinkink watter. one, or FEW times, it does not hurt. If you repeat it every day for a few years, you can make you seriously sick. B) the bottle is afterwards usually not usable for another pupose, because it is misshapen and its walls are less thick (done by heat) and usually even the lid does not fit as originaly intended, and that is why you can not use it again as a canteen. C) you are taking a chance (not a large threatening one, but still an existing chance), that the bottle will break by heat and than spill your precious watter on your preccious fire. When you will be doing this, it is good to have a backup fire close by and backup fuel for fire close by. The same goes for the source of watter you are trying to boil. D) if you are doing the sock version of it, you can loose your sock, wich might prove dangerous to your feet. And working legs are in most survival situations synonimus with chances for life. 4) Watter filter. For that purpose it is good if the bottle is realy big, or if you have more of them (especially when smaller. Also it is advantagous, if the bottles does have a wide opening - the more wide, the better. Than you need a small-grained sand, charcoal, cotton, soil and if you want it to last longer, some grocery plastic (with premade holes), to put inbetween different materials, to prolong time, it works. 5) ussage as anchor, counterweight, or simple "stake". If you fill the flask with sand, stones or dirt to add weight, you can use it to stabilize your shelter/tent on places, where simple stake is not an option (rocky ground) or the counterweight is better solution, or for wathewer you need to stabilize.

If you turn your oil bottle around and pour with the slanted side toward your target, you can get much closer to target before the oil starts out the opening. If you don't have anything to use as a funnel, this helps a lot.

Something I noticed was the orientation of the oil bottle you used. If you pour with the spot on top, further away from the funnel, it will prevent an air pocket from forming in the bottle causing a smoother pour. Great video!

For the survival kit, put items into other small plastic bags and attach a string before shoving into the bottle. Tape to the inside of the neck. When the item is needed, remove the end of the string from where it's taped on and pull out. How well this will work, I don't know. But I thought of it immediately when he was demonstrating this.

Sootch, I know it was for demo purpose, but you should turn the motor oil container flat (like a book laying on a table) as you pour - you have much more surface area in container for air to fill so the oil won't glug out and spill all over as it tries to replace the fluids with gases. This works for anti-freeze containers, any rectangular jug holding liquids. Peace in His name.

I have another method and this should only be used if you're in a desperate survival situation. if you're in a survival situation where you have no way of boiling water and you are edging towards dehydration you can use this method. Using your foraging/fishtrap method (without the duct tape) you can put some kind of cloth over the funneled area you can slowly pour some gathered water over the cloth and it can be some form of a filter. They key is to make sure that water is from a flowing source and to only do this in small portions. This can be used to filter out debris in a small portion of any other contaminants that could be in it like bacteria. When done in small portions your body is able to fight off anything that might have been missed through it and it gives your body the hydration that it needs. Lots of people think if the water is not coming from a faucet or is born in a pot that you shouldn't drink it. Which I do agree that should be the only way but if you're in a really extreme desperate survival situation it is one of the nitty gritty methods that could be done. it's kind of silly if somebody would die dehydration next to a water source just because they didn't want to take a sip of it. I say this because I remember seeing a document from years ago where a couple got lost hiking in the woods and this is what they done. They made that funnel method and the woman used the cup of her bra as a filter. They only done it in very small portions but it was enough for them to get a bit of hydration to make it out from where they was lost.

Minnows will swim in but not be able to swim out. ;) Also, I actually use the top of a water bottle as a funnel in my every day life. #livingpoor. +Matthew Livingston convicts make weapons from many different things. if you are locked up in a very cold state roll up a newspaper soak it in water leave it outside a while and it will freeze solid. you have a good club. after you use it lay it next to a heater and it will thaw out. throw it in the trash. NO EVIDENCE.
