This tutorial will teach you about a #shadenet #greenhouse, also known as a shade cloth greenhouse or shade house or shadenet house while comparing it to a plastic @greenhouse or a polyhouse, which many farmers are used to, as it has been on the market for a very long time now.
Shade house farming is widely practiced in India and in Israel. In Africa, shade cloth farming is common in Kenya, Ghana and South Africa, so shade net greenhouse farming is not entirely new.
It is also relatively easy to install a shade cloth greenhouse, in fact its much easy to construct a shade house greenhouse as compared to a plastic greenhouse or a polyhouse.
In this video we will look at the advantages and disadvantages of both a shade house greenhouse and a polyhouse greenhouse. After watching this shade cloth greenhouse VS plastic greenhouse video, you should be able to decide which greenhouse is best for you and the aim of this tutorial is to help you make an informed decision with regards to which greenhouse is the best for you and your climate.

For the case of soil going to plants during rainy days and cause diseases, you can also use paper mulching not very expensive. Otherwise thanks for sharing 👍with us, it's nice and cheap compared to plastic green house. Much love from Uganda 🇺🇬

Hi Best Farming Tips I just discovered your channel and it's a blessing I did. I say this because I used this material before here in England. My reason for it was only to stop insects, but I realised that there was a slight temperature difference, it was slightly warmer inside. Can I ask you: 1. where in the world you farm. I was planning to build one such greenhouse in Zimbabwe near Bulawayo, now that I know all this wonderful information from you, thank you so much. 2. Would it prevent frost in the winter or I would need extra protection. I can find out for you the winter temperatures in my country, Zimbabwe. But your accent sounds familiar to my part of the world. I feel proud of you though, especially your excellent knowledge of poultry. God bless you.

Hi Vukile, nice to hear from you my friend. I hope you are doing well in England. True, I'm originally from Zimbabwe and I have lived in Bulawayo too before. Yes a shade net greenhouse prevents frost, provided you plant your crops not earlier than 4 months before frost hit your area. For instance, in Zimbabwe frost usually affects crops in July and early August, so plant your tomatoes in your shade net greenhouse after 15 March, so that by the time we get to July and August, they will still be below 2 metres as far as height is concerned. If you are going to grow plants that never reach 2 metres height above the ground, then you can plant them anytime, frost won't affect them. A shade net greenhouse should be 3 metres high, so the further your plants are from the roof of the shade cloth greenhouse the lower the chances of getting affected by frost.

Thank you for sharing. THis is very informative. Let me ask for everyones opinion. My farm is in the southern part of Nigeria. For the past few seasons, end of January we start getting acid/coarse rain that burn crops. Later into the season, the rain most times become excessive and crops wither and crops die. In this example, will poly on the top and shade net on the sides be best? Or what is the best way in your opinion? Thank you for this opportunity.

It depends with the pests in question. If we are talking about butterflies, grasshoppers and ballworms, then surely a shade net can prevent them from entering the greenhouse. Then if we were talking about tuta absoluta (leaf miners), well thats a different story, even in a plastic greenhouse those ones can still enter and wreck havoc.

In that case, the shadenet house is the best suitable greenhouse for you because high temperatures require a very well ventilated structure and only a shade cloth can provide that.

Which shade net color is the best for broccoli and what shade percentage?
@BestFarmingTips
@BestFarmingTips 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ernest, my apologies for late response, was out of town. The best shade net colour for all horticulture produce is white and 40% is the best as well for horticulture. This is because most plants in the horticulture farming sector, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbages, green vegetables and the like, thrive when exposed to about 60% sunshine. A 40% shade net cloth permits 60% sunshine penetration and blocks 40% sunshine from reaching your plants in the greenhouse.

@BestFarmingTips
@BestFarmingTips 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Yasin. If you live in an area with too much wind, then you better go for a shade cloth greenhouse. A shade cloth greenhouse can not be affected by too much wind. If ever a heavy wind destroys a shade net greenhouse, then a plastic greenhouse would be totally eradicated.

Its really an informative video, just the one i was looking for Can you please tell 1. Do hybrid tomatoes withstand heavy rainfall in this nylon net? In summer we have around 45 °c, heavy rainfall, humid conditions. 2. In winter we have around 5° c, Will the nylon provide enough heat inside?
@BestFarmingTips
@BestFarmingTips 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Muhammad, nice to hear from you. Yes tomatoes can withstand the heavy rainfall when they are in a shade cloth greenhouse. In this video there is a part which shows rain showers trickling into the greenhouse, that was actually a heavy rainfall, but it did not destroy or affect plants in the greenhouse. Also, cold weathers don't easily affect plants in the shade cloth. However, just make sure that in the months that your country or town receives frost, your plants should be below 2 metres height, that way they withstand frost.

But there is no point in comparison. Polyhouse is for those Summer plants which the cultivator wants to cultivate in winter season! So they create Summer like condition in winter. And Shade net is for Summer to control heat exactly like a Tree shade.
@BestFarmingTips
@BestFarmingTips 3 жыл бұрын
I get you my friend, but that's okay if one can afford to have both a shade net house and a polyhouse, so that in winter you use a polyhouse and in summer you use a shade net house. Unfortunately very few can afford that. Practically most of us have all year round greenhouses, which are utilized throughout the year. In that case one has to choose whether to go for a polyhouse or a shade net. It is the overall performance and ultimate advantages over disadvantages that make one decide which on to go for, and that's what this video is all about.
@ngengasya1836
@ngengasya1836 3 жыл бұрын
@@BestFarmingTips for me , instead of substitution, best thing is to go for budget price of both Because in the end what's matter most is the plant's productivity! And temperature & humidity play the main role. The main purpose of both these is to control that.

When plastic has so much demerits, why is there a plastic greenhouse in the first place? Shouldn't everyone go for shade net?
@BestFarmingTips
@BestFarmingTips 2 жыл бұрын
Most people just don't know how great a shade net greenhouse is. They are used to the traditional plastic greenhouse. That's the reason why shade cloth greenhouses are very few. Many people who speak ill about shade cloth greenhouses have never worked with a shade net, all they rely on is third hand information and their own perceptions based on the material used to make a shade net.
