I've got about a dozen brass knuckles (well, steel, brass, iron and glass) in the UK legally. Can't get rid of them legally either. Can't carry them on the street. Can't sell them. Can't buy them. But I confiscated them working on the doors of a nightclub during fights. Now I'm stuck with them. Every time there is a 'knife amnesty' I chuckle because I'm on allowed to carry these to the collection point.

I think a lot of the laws were made as excuses to arrest members of the criminal underworld, at least in some places here in the states. that way the could hold them for something small until they have a chance to get them for some of their worst crimes that the had been able to cover their tracks on. the problem is that at times these laws bite law abide-rs in the butt, like in california.
@DivingDonut9 жыл бұрын

Galgenvogel I am pretty sure that they do fight againts bigger offence aswell, but there is so much little "crimes" around like bad parking, jaywalking and so on that there is ofcourse a huge amount of fines for that. I don't understand why if you wish the be proactive you basically have to play dumb and pretend like you don't want to be prepared in case of an emergency or else you will be seen as an attacker yourself. Do you have to use that same line of thinking when buying a fire extinguisher? Like "Oh, I'm just buying this fire extinguisher because it it aesthetically pleasing. Not to be prepared in case of a fire." Or, "the defendant claims he had a fire extinguisher in his kitchen in case of a fire. clearly, he had the fire extinguisher because he planned to start a fire sometime in the future. ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we are quite possibly dealing with a serial arsonist here." I don't get it. But then again I live in America, where if a police officer asks why i'm wearing a gun and I can answer "because it is a day ending in 'Y'." And that is a totally valid reason.

A significant portion of the U.S. speaks Spanish as a first or primary language and KZbin algorithms can't tell if you, a particular US citizen, speak Spanish or not. I suppose KZbin programmers could circumvent this issue by looking at whether or not you use the Spanish version of your browser or KZbin, but I suppose that wouldn't necessarily fix the issue for everyone since not all (primarily) Spanish speaking people will do that. Some may know enough English to use the English version of their browser or KZbin but type in Spanish to search for videos. It seems like a non-issue, anyway. Most people hate ads.

I also remember the guy who got away with shooting an "escort" here (here being Texas) b/c she "stole" money from him (even though she had probably just charged him) I think two days after the fact, not too sure but it was something like that....pretty silly The not being able to defend yourself in Canada is pretty silly and kind of pompous (why do you need to defend yourself if our society is so great?), but not as silly as the stuff here.
***** it's not so bad here. Sure everybody around you has guns, but they mostly collect dust
@DeathbyDusk9 жыл бұрын
+Tahkozz You're allowed to defend yourself, but carrying a weapon is a no-no. Technically you're not supposed to use guns for home defense here either but people aren't generally punished so long as they, say, didn't put 10 rounds into a guy, pausing once to reload. Its more of a within reason thing. IE you carry around a knife openly, not for self defense purposes... well not self defense purposes against people anyways, against coyotes on the other hand... but if you say used it when you got attacked, generally the RCMP would cut you some slack. Unless you got a particularly anal one working that night.
@DeNihility9 жыл бұрын
Well, that's a misconception. In Canada, we technically are allowed to defend ourselves so as long as it can be argued out in court. So for instance, if someone broke into my house and had intent to hurt me or someone else, I can defend myself with however much force I may see adequate. Yes, you can kill them if you have no other choice. However, you can't go attack them if they're retreating. You can also perform a Citizen's Arrest, hold them in place until police arrive. You also can't shoot someone for tresspassing unless they shot first. But in the end, it never hurts to have a good lawyer.... or wallet.

If you do plan to do an abuse test, please use extra caution like use an extended artificial punching limb to hold the plastic knuckles in place during the test. Get well soon ;3

It's awesome to see you still uploading videos so quickly after your accident dude. I just saw the video of you right after the accident in my feed then came over to your channel to see you'd uploaded another video only 15 hours ago. xD You're awesome, most other youtubers would have taken at least two or 3 weeks off to recover after what you went through.

These weapon bans are idiotic. As for firearms, i have no idea, they make no sense in theory, but Finland and other Nordic nations have little incidents with them...At least so far. But for knives, it is clear: most crimes are committed with regular knives, those same ones old pensioneers and young kids use to make food. If you want to ban weapons becouse they are dangerous, ban those. Criminals won`t obey the law anyway. However, i am certain that if you carry pistol with you, you will be more afraid of shadows and will use it, that is just how humans work. At the very least, that is how civilians work.

+TheRomanRuler "However, i am certain that if you carry pistol with you, you will be more afraid of shadows and will use it, that is just how humans work. Heya Skall - Thank you for the thoughtful and realistic look you bring to the realms of weapons, self defense, and dealing with this crazy and sometimes violent world. I do have one comment that you might have covered before, but I haven't yet seen your full backlog. - I don't know how this woks in Canada, but here in the US, there are a lot of 'bans' and 'laws' that aren't regularly enforced. These punitive bans exist to provide prosecutors additional charges to drop on someone when there isn't sufficient evidence to put a bad actor away for a primary offense. For example, if someone is arrested after a domestic dispute, and the victim refuses to cooperate with prosecution, the offender will probably walk. However, if he is found in possession of one contraband or another, said guilty party may serve some time anyway. I can't say I'm necessarily a fan of this tactic, but I can sort of offer some empathy to the frustration of law enforcement who are trying their darndest to actually do the right thing, and get stymied when bad actors have good lawyers (which does sometimes happen).Anyway, Here's to you, and I hope your recovery goes smoothly.

i make these for my friends and family using my laser cutter. i use delrin. i've made them out of layers of plywood and MDF laminated together. guaranteed to pass thru any metal detector! i've flown back and forth across the United States numerous times with one in my back pocket and the TSA don't even pay them any attention. i like having one with me because if i "must" punch someone i don't want to break my hand. i cannot afford to lose time from work while i await injury to heal. but yeah, i've been making these things for YEARS! interesting i see this and it's like, heeeey! i do that!! you mean people would actually buy these things?!! very cool, thumbs up!

I've only seen one pair of real brass knuckles in my life and that was when I was working on the paleontology collection for a small regional museum for a few months. One day a school group came in and one of the kids found some brass knuckles in the bushes. Anyway the curator informed the police and they came to pick up the knuckles. Pretty weird place to put them, but the museum building is the former municipal building so a few decades ago the police station was housed there. Perhaps they got tossed into the bushes by some one getting brought in a long time ago. Kind of makes me wish we looked into them a bit more to see how old they were.

Given the common law system common to Britain and Canada and USA, you don't rely on statutory definitions alone. You can also refer to court records, where judges/courts clear up any ambiguity in the law as written by the legislature. So there could be something in the court reports/records in Canada which adds to or modifies what is said in the statute.

@Blakobness9 жыл бұрын
I believe it's the heft that a brass knuckle gives you is the reason for the ban. The plastic knuckles give you a hardpoint to get a sharp point across in your punch, a metal one has that extra momentum paired with that hardpoint that could really do some severe damage.

These look interesting. That law is strange though, if someone knows how to punch with proper technique and uses one of these I don't know much difference it'd make if the knuckles were metal instead of high impact plastics. The unfortunate target would most likely get fucked anyway. I own a set of "traditional" brass knuckles actually made of brass, though I don't carry them(legal to own, illegal to carry out the house). Looking forward to you testing these, I'm interested in how the plastics fare in an impact weapon shaped like this. Also, wanted to say how much I respect your work ethic to be uploading this frequently even right after the accident. There are very few channels like yours that I follow(as in channels with a wide range of topics and personal vlogging rambles interspersed), and your channel is undoubtedly my favourite of said small bunch. Keep up the good work Skall!

I've never tried knuckle dusters but seeing this video reminds me how awkward they seem to make your punch, since the impact will be lowered significantly from the two knuckles that generally hit with a normal punch. It might just be an issue of appearance though since I guess much of it depends on how it lies in the palm of your hand.

Having seen a few drunken scuffles in my time I know why these are banned in many countries. You could easily slip these in your pocket, much like a knife, and make a simple bar fight/misunderstanding lethal. A hook punch to the dome with extra weight, no hinderance to the attackers own hand, and the rough surface could pose a problem.
@Theivv8 жыл бұрын
+Theivv IBP Same could be said for a roll of quarters/nickles in the state in regard to the weight.

According to the law, you're not allowed to carry anything for self defense unless it's something that you would carry on a regular basis. As I personally go for walks in the evening, I would carry a flashlight because it could help you see better and maybe someone from attacking you at night. For example, if you play hockey and carry your hockey stick in the car, it could be used for self defense situations. Other things ice chippers, could also be used.

This makes me wonder if any non-metal material is exempt, like a "wood knuckles". Also, what if you make only the part in the palm out of metal, then make the actual knuckles part out of a hard plastic?

I would ask the seller of the have the material called "moo glow" it's typically used in knife handle scales. They glow brightly and for a decent amount of time.
