Plastic Pointers #16 - Blended Plastic Parts (PP/PE)

We’re starting to see more and more under the hood parts made out of a blend of plastics. The two parts we're focusing on are labeled PP/PE (polypropylene and polyethylene). You have to make sure you are using the correct welding rod when doing a repair. If you're not sure which welding rod to use, you can perform a weld test, as shown in this video.

That first test failure with the PE is how that material typically works for me. I've had good success with PP though.

So, I’m trying to fix a drain pan for an evaporator coil. I’m trying to fill in a hole, to be precise… do you have a list of technicians who work with your tools? Or, any suggestions on how to go about it? I’ll look for a number for you. Regardless, your product is impressive

Thank you for the compliment. A technician at a body shop would probably not be interested in repairing it. Do you know what kind of plastic it is made from? We can recommend a product so you can do the repair yourself.

A weld test is good. After seeing your tests. I think we can assume that we can rely on the first tow letters when you see tow symbols like ( PP/PE ) . good job sir
