Living in the Netherlands, I had no trouble ordering this set online. Yes sure compared to the vintage sets of the 1970s they are more expensive even adjusting for inflation. That's how it is. If I had known this 40-45 years ago, I would have bought some of my sets twice or thrice. Btw I still own them all I never threw them away or gave them away.

In July 2022 I finally bought this set online. Decades after I bought my last Airfix WW2 1/32 scale soldier set. In fact I ordered two sets because one set only contains 14 figures. Two sets are 28 figures, and that resembles my old sets which had on average 29 figures. These reviews have warned me in advance the plastic is of a much harder quality than the softer 1970s quality. Still i'm happy with this British Infantry set.

The box artwork on this set actually comes from the "Multipose" British Infantry set, which were designed for 1944 Western Europe, whereas these troops are depicting BEF infantry circa 1940. Hope that clarifies things.

Over the years I've often wondered about the sometimes obvious discrepancy between box art and content. I guess the producers didn't quite care.

Any comment about painting these British WW Two infantry as Canadians?The Canadians used the same uniform as the British but i believe their uniforms had a greenish tint to them and were of better quality material.Found a big box of Airfix boxes still full of figures in my basement so a lot of painting to do!great video!

Thanks mate, I guess no real tips but you may need some good reference material as in books, I'll find the one I have as it's got Canada in

You are right. The Canadians had indeed a uniform with a more greenish hue.

fun fact the BBC actually used one of these figure in an episode of doctor who, the episode in question is called Listen episode 4 Season 8, the only difference is that they removed the gun for the sake of story telling as the doctor hates guns.

Nice review. I actually really like the dude with the defected head looks cool. I have a French Old Guard 1/32 Airfix who’s head is looking down.

Compare these to the multi pose models and you can see immediately how these were created. On the face of it good figures but in reality not really. For later war ideally should be seeing the spike bayonet and all of them wearing the entrenching tool, the Bren gunner ideally with his small spare parts wallet, the SMG gunner (a JNCO) ideally with a sten (the Thompson by 1944 was more a commando forces weapon and more usually seen in Italy than in France), the officer is a weird one. He can’t seem to decide whether he is going all officer (pistol and cap) or going like his men so he can attempt to avoid getting shot (he is depicted wearing other ranks webbing with the Bren pouches). Ideally if all in as an officer then he should have a bino pouch, compass pouch and holster, plus water bottle and officers haversack/map pouch (see the airfix para officer figure pointing the way to the pub), plus in action he’d be popping on a helmet and using at least a sten. My personal favourite Airfix sets would be 7th Cavalry, Afrika Korps (the inimitable grenade chucked, the MG34, running with rifle, etc), Gerbigsjagers (the pickaxe man is an exception), of course the Paras and modern British infantry (modern as in 1970s). They didn’t have many duff sets, just got lazy (ie the British infantry set as reviewed) or crazy (Space warriors set and the rather nutty SAS set that missed out snipers, shotguns, rammers, explosive frames and was just MP5, MP5 and oh MP5 and finally flashbang......with MP5).

I quite agree, this set was late (1980s) so no excuse from airfix, they look early war to me!

TOY SOLDIER REVIEW You know what you’ve got a good point there! Early war would make sense. I should have another look at the Bren. I’ve been thinking about the modern British set and how it’d be great to augment them with some conversion jobs such as the para officer with his sten modded to look like a sterling, the sniper (the rifle got developed to the L42 in the seventies), the radio operator, the Bren gunner modded to an L4A4, maybe even the sten armed bomb chucker (turned into a leading from the front SNCO with a sterling) from the infantry set the 2in might be feasible, the support group, we’ll go to town there.

If they are maybe supposed to be late war the extra equipment might be left in their transport vehicles and they are just in light order?

YES. As long as they are still available... If you can I would go for the earliest sets from the 1970s. The 1980s sets and later are less good if I have to believe all these KZbin Airfix reviews. I only have ONE 1980s set - the British Infantry set....but that is only because Airfix didn't release them in the 1970s.

@Emdee5632
@Emdee5632 Жыл бұрын
In the 1970s the sets were less shiny. The plastic was a bit softer too. Meaning that when gun barrels breaks off (and sooner or later that WILL happen) it happens sooner with the later sets. The earlier sets might bend first before they break off.

As toys these are fine, as models they are poor - not crisp enough, wrong scale (not 1/35) and as you point out missing equipment.

To me all the Airfix figures today look cheap and badly moulded compared to the 1970s.
