I was taught to do mitred joints on PVC trunking. My older mentor (he was close to retirement age in 1989 when I was a YTS lad) thought using premade bends was a mark of amateurism lol. (same with conduit, boxes only at accessories, or for pull in access. No premade bends!) Miss that cantankerous old guy :) Edit: Thermal damage in thatched or other high risk properties is 'butt puckering'. Saw one where the immersion (old top entry type) was stacked with dirty old towels as 'insulation' and the fire must have smouldered for quite a long time! There was a decent sized burned volume of towels around the faulty flex.

Exposed AC piping (i.e. not trunked) looks messy. Then putting plants in front of the the units really screws up their efficiency. You'd think with all that money, they'd be able to afford a ducted AC system and multisplits for fewer outdoor units.

Why not use cable with brown, blue and green/yellow colors? That's what I do. I also use the brown, black, grey when I do a light with two switches. For lights etc we only switch the live wire. And usually the supply comes to the light and from the light it goes to the switches

@emilmckellar49323 жыл бұрын
Band-it strap is a trade name of something else. I use it in stead of saddles or cleats on some outdoor installations. Also you have a 3P supply and I guess 80A-100A per phase. Why did you not just pull one 10mm cable to point one and a nice outdoor DB and a 6mm armoured from there to the the second. Saves you pulling two cables, the supply DB can handle it and it looks better in a location where looks are a major concern?
@TheChipmunk20083 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is what we did for a local customer who had a 3ph 60A supply. Feeds to local DB's near the load centres... (mostly 1ph but a couple of 3ph)

@TheChipmunk20083 жыл бұрын
I dislike the NICEIC's 'don't use black as N' idea. You can identify any wire as anything :p (see, i learned from the cantankerous old guy)...[yes I do follow Black=G/Y, Grey=Blue, but it's a guidance, not a rule] If the load is reasonably balanced on that 3ph board, Eddy won't be coming out to play too much. I'd be more worried about the damage to the sheathing of the tails. One tip I picked up from an industrial spark... when labelling the cables like you did at the end, use a small cable tie round the label toward one end, just so that when the adhesive fails, the label stays on the cable. I find little things like that are more likely to make the next sparky take pride in the job :)

I thought Eddy currents was when they all went in separate holes ??
@HappilyHomicidalHooligan3 жыл бұрын
Eddy Currents are caused by a Current Imbalance between adjacent conductors (one conductor is running more Amps than the other one) this means the 2 magnetic fields don't cancel each other out and the remaining field causes the Eddie Current. This is why modern wiring uses pre-made cables containing the Hot and Return (Neutral) conductors for each circuit in one package - the mag field from the Hot is canceled by the mag field of the Neutral preventing Eddie Current formation. The potential problem with the 3 Phase Feed Cables entering the Distribution Panel through one knockout is if the Circuit Loads are not perfectly balanced across all 3 Phases, each Phase will be drawing a different amount of Current, causing an imbalance between the 3 cables resulting in Eddie Current formation in either the metal enclosure or the gland clamps holding the cables in the enclosure entry...
