Around 1:44 how did you turn the rectangle and make fillet round curve corners? What is the hotkey?

Select the curve and press B, it will fillet all the sharp point in the curve. Optionally you can select individual point and press B to fillet it individually. Hope that help!

im curious, how's the performance of this compared to fusion 360 on more complex pieces.

That is an interesting topic, but unfortunately I haven't found any resource that comparing any of cad software that artists use (moi & fusion) but I'll definitely keep an eye for that. The thing make this stands out to me is the price, very low compared to moi & fusion. Great resource for newcomers to the industry. Thanks for the comment!
