Why do people switch from a free software like blender to a paid software like Maya? is there that big of a difference in features to justify paying?

Industry probably, since the pipeline in movies is mostly in maya.

It’s mostly the industry has a specific standard where you’re more likely to get hired due to pipelines. A lot of the bigger companies have heavily modified versions of the software with in house devs that build tools for it. There’s also support aspect too that companies prefer to pay for. My opinion is it takes years, maybe even decades to master complex 3D software so you should pick wisely as opposed to going for free options NOW. Most do student versions costing next to nothing anyway, but increasing your chances of employment and income potential for the future. Just because something is free it may actually cost you more, think about it.

the idea for this is that you're paying for the cheapest NURBS modeling software there is. the NURBS functionality of Blender is severely lacking, which is a shame. i dont know why people use Maya though, other than those who are stuck with it for their jobs

as a side note it is a perpetual license for the version you have purchased, but you are only allowed to have it installed on 2 devices at the same time and your only allowed for the license to be transferred between 8 different devices. i do understand that 8 devices is quite a few but technically once those slots have been filled then your software is a brick thus it really cannot be considered "perpetual" as it does have a limit. also with these limitations i haven't heard if you are able to use your software offline. Not shitting on plasticity, i am actually looking into it more myself as i could see me enjoying the software but these are the concerns i have from what i have studied

@@hazdrubal5962 This is a quote taken off their "FAQ's" Page on the plasticity website. I might be wrong but it sounds like its limited to 8 pc's and after that you can "request additional transfers" "What does "node-locked" mean? Node-locked means that the license is tied to a specific computer. Often this means that you can only use the software on one computer at a time. However, with the Indie license you can use the software on up to two computers at the same time, and with the Studio license you can use the software on up to four computers at the same time. You can also transfer the license from one computer to another up to 8 times, in case you purchase new computers. Beyond 8 transfers, you can email us to request additional transfers."

not sure where you get that Plasticity can only be installed on 2 devices as their website specifically say that it is node locked for up to 4 devices and if you want to install it on anymore computers all you have to do is send a request to them. Personally, I don't see why any artist would need to install it on more than 2 computers in the first place. Plasticity wasn't fully designed for full use in graphics and digital films the way Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine and several other big-name software. Plasticity however does have a Blender bridge that allows for file transfers to Blender. it also has the ability to both accept and transfer these types of files STEP, IGES, ACIS, OBJ, STL, and Parasolid import/export. Rhino import, FBX import. DXF/DWG import for Windows only. which means you can directly transfer cad files as well as transfer files to slicer software for 3D printing. if you're going to pass out information, please make sure it's actually the truth.

been studying it a lot. hope the mesh exported can be as dense as I want for resin 3d printing and watertight without the need to fix anything.. and that I can use precision scaling soon.

look up Nikita Kapustin he has some very excellent tutorials on Plasticity that you can purchase, and they are not that expensive.
