This album was recorded 5 years before Motorhead even formed as a band. So Sabbath was pretty alone in the proto-metal world in those days, unless you count Deep Purple.

Anyone that says Ozzy can't sing should go listen to the Sabotage Album. Dude abused too many drugs and lost his voice, but he clearly was an amazing singer.

This song gets my vote. For being the greatest Ati-War song. That i have ever listened to.

I don't think Tony is trying to double the solo all the time. He purposely overlaps and goes in opposite directions and heads back over and over. It's so original. Trying to figure out those solos by ear as a kid on crappy speakers was so hard!

Tomy Iommi once mentioned that the basic tracks for Paranoid were recorded at Regent Sound on an Ampex 440, four-track tape deck. The Regent Sounds tapes were then taken to Island Studios where the four-track tapes were then transferred to a 3M, M23 eight track-tape deck. The band then added additional overdubs (mostly guitar chorus) onto the eight-track tape. The final two-track (stereo) mixes were then created from the eight-track tape.

Bill god bless him, hasn't been able to play for over 25 years. In 1970 he was at his apex, a machine but by 1980 he was finished. He was able to pick up sticks, sure but never the same, I saw Sabbath in 1998 and it was awful. Shame.

He never plays the exact same fills note for note the way they are on the record. Never has. They're always just close approximations with the same vibe. That's what he meant, and it's 100% true.

The only way to review these older songs is on LOUDSPEAKERS... The other reaction artists listening on headphone miss the entire Wall Shaking experience, and deep tones engineered into the sounds. The sudden jolts of sound that make you feel the music. Something you can not get from headphones...

Hi I really like the song, but was there anything supposed to be happening in this 14:32 regarding the reaction? No talk or breakdown about how the bass and guitar compliment each other and how the guitar has no excess low end to get in the way of the bass guitar, or how the bass guitar has a healthy aggressive middy character (precision bass) that stands out in the mix, despite the distorted guitar, and the two do not clash each other. The frequency range of the recording is quite limited to by today's standards, compression is different than today. Also, having in mind the drums were probably recorded with 4 microphones maybe, and that the toms overall sound like overtightened carpeting on a couch, the band played live, probably in one take, or maybe glued the parts on the quite hihat counting parts, and with all the limitations imposed probably by the budget (compared to Led Zep at the time) it did not hinder the fact that the magic of this band at that time could not be destroyed by the bad kick drum sound, or limited overdubs of the guitar. Almost no talk about the technical aspects of the recording. Yeah, pan is all over. Cheers!

1960s and 70s rock n roll is like ancient archeology, we have the finished product and or its pieces, but never a solid enough blue print on how it was built, we're always left up to our own theories and devices

Your comment about listening in a studio environment made me wonder what your source is for music when you listen in the studio. You mentioned opening up Chrome but not where you went from there. My point is that some sources are far better than others. The amount of compression, bit rate, etc. I assume you found a good one for critical listening.
