Ginge here. The song has several layers. Tim IS singing about the N word, in a safe way people can understand. He's singing about prejudice in general. Our own prejudices led us to immediately thinking he was singing about a different word. And while in America ginger isn't really a derogatory thing, there are times and places in the world where red heads were killed as witches. South Park didn't really help with the whole 'gingers have no soul' thing, either. Remember phrases like 'beat you like a red-headed stepchild'? Tim himself is amazing. He's moved away from a lot of the comedy he did a decade ago, so if you did go see him today, he's doing more serious stuff. But it's just as wonderful. He also wrote the music to Matilda and wrote the play version of Groundhogs Day. He played an incredible Judas in JCSuperstar. He's an actor and has been in Californication, the Artful Dodger, Upright, Secret River, and he was an uncomfortably cut Friar Tuck in Robin Hood.

I used to get called Duracell a lot too, the Australian slang for a Duracell battery is copper top because of the colour of the positive end of the battery and my hair is a verry coppery red colour. Best revenge I ever got for the teasing was in electronics class, i got asked how I tell the difference between my hair and the copper wires, I asked the person who asked to come close and I'll show them, I pulled a hair out from my head and put it on the hot soldering iron making sure they got a good smell, no-one asked that question again (if you've smelt burning hair you know why)

Tim Minchin is a friggin genius. There's a live show with an orchestra, you should watch the whole thing. Even just go one by one from the beginning, it's going to take you on a fantastic ride. He's like Bo Burnam on a whole other musical level. I don't always agree with his social or political commentary, but I always appreciate the mastery with which he delivers it. A great example of his skill is a song called You Grew on Me. The first couple times I heard it, all I took away was a kind of silly, maybe a bit cynical look at romance. Then it got stuck in my head and as the layers peeled away, underneath this kind of dark comedy is one of the most beautiful and sincere love songs I've ever heard. It's absolutely brilliant.

If you want to be blasted at Tim’s piano playing ability - Dark Side, awesome version. But, Tim’s music can go from piss yourself laughing to serious topics. He’s even written an Australian Christmas Carol, White Wine in the Sun (it’s summer time during Christmas is Australia, and commonly sit outside having a BBQ with family. He wrote that song while living in London. He has been there for a few years). But definitely Dark Side, Pope Song, Storm, Inflatable You, Lullaby (Black Pegasus didn’t like that one, took it too literally) Not Perfect… and then White Wine in the Sun (warning, it’s only 1% funny but a MUST watch).

I’ll look it up

@@KrizzKalikoOfficial reading through the comments, glad to see others recommending White Wine in the Sun. Might want to do it closer to Christmas, and if you are going to do that, you might want to also try another Australian legend (Australia’s Bob Dylan) who also created an Australian Christmas song - Paul Kelly’s “How to make Gravy”. If you want context to the song, to understand the Australian culture for why these two songs are culturally important, and not your usual Christmas songs, let me know and I’ll DM or reply here. Actually,… because Lullaby strained Black Pegasus’ impression of Tim Minchin that much, this could be an opportunity to do a reaction with him, where you are re-introducing him to Tim.

My first introduction to Tim Minchin was his song “if I didn’t have you”

Anybody who likes RAP and bars will love STORM give it a chance. Not only is it funny but the way he uses language is unsurpassed.

You want to do the live version of 'Storm'. An extremely clever delivery in the form of beat poem 💥

Tim Minchin really is on a whole different level to so many of his 'contemporaries'. Clever wordplay, subversive, hilarious, irreverent, self-taught...then there's the whiplash of going from this, and The Pope Song, Thank You God, Cont, and Lullaby for example, to White Wine In The Sun, Not Perfect, and I'll Take Lonely Tonight which is intense, but not surprising
