After listening to many of ur utube lessons, I have decided to go with lab grown and not as high a color or clarity knowing, because of your tutorial it can still be beautiful. To add onto his first point, on allergies: -"White gold" alloys typically contain a mix of cheaper metals like nickel & zinc, these are used to whiten the gold. -"Rose gold" alloys contain a mix of gold and copper, the copper gives the gold its distinctive pink touch. Unfortunately a fair amount of people naturally have skin allergies to zinc, nickel, and copper, these are some of the most common metal allergies. If your skin turns green or you get rashes from costume jewelry, you have common metal allergies. You should do skin tests and make sure any gold jewelry you buy doesn't contain irritating metals. Another important factor: 14 kt gold is the most common alloy used for jewelry making, and that's about 58% gold content, with 42% "other" metals. For someone with skin sensitivities, that's a gamble. 18kt gold = 75% gold with 25% "other" metals. A much smaller amount of unknown, cheaper metals; therefore this ratio is less likely to cause allergic reactions. The downside? 18kt alloys are substantially softer and not great for jewelry use. These typically won't wear well due to the high likelihood of scratches and dents. So then, what's a safe bet? -Stainless steel is affordable, durable, and allergies are uncommon. It's not widely used, but if you want something cheap that will last well and isn't likely to irritate you, there are online stores that carry options. 925 sterling = 92.5% silver with 7.5% "other" metals. Sterling silver is mostly silver and reports of skin irritation are uncommon. It's also relatively inexpensive, so you can test silver without breaking the bank. The downside: it's prone to tarnishing. You can have it plated in rhodium to prevent tarnishing, but the rhodium will wear off after a year or so of regular wear. Often called hypoallergenic, titanium is one of the least sensitizing metals, alongside its buddy platinum. However it's an expensive option and not commonly used in jewelry. Online retailers carry titanium jewelry and it might be worth the investment. Platinum is heavier and stronger than gold, and with very few reports of irritation, it's one of the best metals for sensitive skin. Unfortunately platinum is expensive and it develops a patina with age. 😂

@cj256743 жыл бұрын
@@sandybeach2184 I can't vouch for anyone else but for my original set that certainly isn't the case. From my experience, as long as you take good care of your ring and your ring is made by someone who knows what they're doing, you shouldn't have to have the rhodium reapplied too often. From my experience as long as you take your rings off when you're swimming and or washing dishes and/or cleaning, the rhodium on your ring will last for years.🙂

I have white gold wedding and engagement rings that recently got bent out of shape. They've been super sturdy up to this point (I'm rough with my hands and I never take them off) so I can't think what I would have done, it's like I stepped on them?! But I'm going to have them remade in platinum so they'll be sturdier. I figure buffing out scratches in platinum will be a better alternative to getting my rings reshaped if I manage to keep damaging them like this!

Price. At this time, gold is trading at 150% more than platinum. Density. There is no measure by which platinum is twice as dense as gold. For 14 karat gold, platinum has between 47 and 66 percent greater density, depending on choice of alloys for the gold.

@MissKitten422 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say "tarnish" is the right descriptor here. Platinum develops a patina as it ages, but it's not like when silver is exposed to air...platinum does not lose metal when it is scratched like gold does...the platinum will just sort of....move. No platinum is lost in the polishing process.

I am currently looking for a round lab-created diamond on James Allen using the link you provided in your round diamond comparison video a few months back. Am I correct in setting the clarity to VS2 when looking at lab-created diamonds to account for the "one grade off" you described in another video? I am aiming for a stone with a clarity no lower than SI1. Also, I have seen a few IGI reports with a cut grade of excellent. Which is the better cut between ideal and excellent? Thank you for all of your help. Your channel has made searching for the perfect diamond so much easier.

I will have it set in a ring and trying to decide best metal and setting for longevity and security. I have taken my wedding set off and secured it in a safe for my daughter when I pass. I am only 53 so I expect 20+ more years and wondering if you might recommend best metal to use and if a 6prong would be better than a 4 prong? I wore my ring always so I intend to do the same with my new one. I am right hand dominant and was thinking right ring finger but I am thinking a left finger would be a better option. Look forward to your response

So I’m trying to understand the difference between 14k and 18k gold beside the amount of gold in it. Which one is more durable? Sounds to me like 14k would be more durable due to the higher concentration of the other metals. Besides the composition of metals is there trusty a difference in appearance for the money?
@OsirisDiamonds3 жыл бұрын
Correct, 14k is harder. As far as color goes, its the same. As the video states, they age differently. In 5 years time, platinum may have a better luster. All fixed with a repolish and redip. If it's rose or yellow gold, 18k has a deeper color.

I would recommend doing more research white gold looks better and is strong for women’s necklaces and anything for women it is also wider and brighter plus gold is a better investment and it’s stupid to pay more for a metal that is cheaper in value like platinum there’s a lot more but I’m going to leave that to your own research. PS I’ve been into jewelry my whole life if you buy gold that is not 24 karat which you can wear by the way, then I recommend white gold because the alloy metals are more valuable and durable, such as palladium
