The worst trap someone could fall is to blindly believe in the guide difficulty ratting, which is usually underrated. 90% of the times is based only on the writer experience, that played the game so much that, guess what, even wrote a guide

I swear those people writing the guides for hard games either haven't done it themselves and are just lying using information they looked up or they make the difficulty rating just to make it seem like they are a god gamer, it's pathetic. And I know for 100% fact that some games have guides like that. No FUCKING WAY is Olli Olli World a 7/10. person who wrote that is an absolute fucking liar.

Definitely disagree with using a guide, I guess its up to where your priorities lie, but i play games because I love video games not just to farm digital trophies, so sacrificing that first blind playthrough experience you can only have once for a +1 to a digital number list sounds miserable to me. Personally I'd rather sacrifice a platinum than the experience.

"Platinum a whole game series" I can totally relate with that having platinumed the entire Yakuza/Like A Dragon series. I absolutely LOVE those games, but by the time I was at Yakuza 5 my brain was beginning to melt and I was dreading those mini games. I decided to play a different game in-between each Yakuza game and that helped as a palate cleanser for my brain.

As of last month, I finally reached 100 platinum trophies. Between school and work over the years, it took me 15 years (to the day of my first ever trophy). 97 were unique platinums though, as I had 2 stacks from Sound Shapes and 1 stack from TellTale's TWD season 1. I have to say, I don't know how other gamers have it in them to get hundreds of platinum trophies. It was still fun for me, but I've matured so much that the high just isn't the same as when I was younger. At some point it became more of a job to trophy hunt rather than just to focus on enjoying the games.

Point 1 couldn't be more spot on. I started trophy hunting with the Uncharted games. Uncharted 1 & 2 I loved and became my first 2 platinums, but by the time I got to the third & fourth I didn't enjoy them. Those two ended up being platinum 74th & 75th. Coming back to them helped so much after giving myself such a big break.

I took about a six month break between doing 100% of Uncharted 1 and finishing up Uncharted 2 (mainly because I was getting pissed off with Uncharted 2's Brutal difficulty), and I found that it truly saved me from absolutely hating the series. Then, I tried to do the Assassin's Creed series back-to-back (AC 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, AC 3, and Liberation) all in a short time frame (less than a month I believe) and I got so burnt out from it. It took me another six months before I even considered playing another Assassin's Creed game, let alone platinuming one.

The last point about passions dying is so true, i feel like most ppl can't accept that sometimes gaming is just no longer for them or that they need a rest from it. It's a sad truth but if you're not having fun with a hobby don't indulge in it games will always be here but we aren't. Another harsh truth is that Gaming as a whole is a huge time waster and there is nothing productive about it whatsoever so that's why it's so key to make sure if you're doing it that you're enjoying it. We all fall into the trap of forcing ourselves to play stuff, so seeing videos like these can be a huge help for sure. And i honestly don't think there are enough vids on gaming putting it how it is when it comes the hobby. Often i feel like vids like these are filled with comforting lies rather than harsh truths so it feels refreshing to see a vid that puts it how it is. Great vid

3:20 I've avoided spoilers by just looking at the "misable" trophies. I go to my notebook and right down all the non secret trophies and organize them into sections. The missable trophies are at the very top that way I'm aware of them. Usually guides give a non spoiler explanation like stopping after a point in the game.

I agree with most of the points here, especially the one about a platinum either enhancing or destroying a game for me. For me an example of the former is Persona 5 Royal, one of the most fun platinum trophy journeys i have experienced thus far tjst elevated my experience with the game and got me to experience everything ot had to offer. I have experienced most of the things you outlined in the video, especially about having to walk away from a game thst was stressful and too difficult

It's great to see that you have such a healthy perspective on gaming - couldn't agree more with "Don't force it, just have fun with it." If a game is frustrating you to the point where you're genuinely not having fun, i.e. it starts impacting your mental/physical health, then absolutely move on. You have far more important things to worry about in your life. At the end of the day, video games are just that - video games. Games are intended to be a form of escapism, where we can forget about the harshness of reality for a few hours, and just simply switch off and have fun. And I say all these things as a completionist. As much as I love chasing Plats/100%ing, it's never worth it at the expense of your enjoyment/health.
@PlatinumBro

What works for me is just trying to maintain a certain average completion percentage across all my games. For me I try to average 75% trophies for all the games I play. If I find a game I don't enjoy getting the trophies for, I will only complete it to 30% for example. But then I look for a game I enjoy more and go for 90-100%. The best advice for trophy hunting, as you mentioned, is walking away if you are not enjoying. I refuse to let gaming become a chore. Maintaining a 75% lets me feel accomplished without taking my fun away.

True, bro. It's really annoying to get Platinum trophies. You just get fed up with the game and just wanna quit as soon as possible after only getting like half of the trophies. Also, some Platinums can just be SO demanding with the Multiplayer trophies, grinds, difficulty trophies and second playthroughs. And it's all for nothing. Nothing except your trophy score rising and a tiny feeling of satisfaction. Just like a lot of other people, I rage trying to platinum games. I just wanna grab the disc and bend it until it breaks 😂. But we do it all because we have nothing else to do.

Trophy hunting a series definitely hurt a bit. The way I do it now is to just play and enjoy the series, take a big ol break, play some other games, and then come back for the cleanup. My gratest joy with some of my trophies is coming back after years to pop that Plat. Super satisfying to see '14 years' underneath it. With regards to the guide, I primarily play to enjoy games, the completionist stuff is secondary, which is why I can and am happy to abandon trophies I can't be bothered with. I think the 'Plat everything' mindset, is one that will ultimately sour you on gaming as it becomes a job rather than for fun, and makes it hard to walk away from a crap trophy.

Great advice. I started trophy hunting in 2021. Bloodborne was my first platinum and got me to love the soul series. Eventually I did platinum all the games. I have a rule that I won’t force myself to platinum every game I play. I will try for most but if I don’t feel up to it I’m just going to see what can be done and enjoy the game. Another is to not let gaming consume time for my other hobbies like exercising, reading, coloring, etc.. I have 2 kids now and taking care of my cats so I try to manage my time as best as I can. I trophy hunt for my own personal achievements and to push myself in games. Gaming is a way for me to relax and have fun. I’m also okay with the fact that I’m a decent gamer. I’m not great or good at it at times but I’m decent and that’s fine with me

I really enjoyed this video. I can definitely relate to most of these points. I usually always check for a trophy guide when starting a game unless the game is less likely to be covered like many of the FMV games that I like to play. Trophy lists that waste your time with tedious grind can definitely sour your overall experience of the game. It will be interesting to see if I ever stop trophy hunting, but so far I am still slightly addicted. Just need to take breaks sometimes.

I agree with almost everything, but, there’s one thing that should be noted, trophy hunting may improve or worsen your enjoyment of the game but it also gives you a more critical eye for said games, for example, getting the plat in final fantasy 13 allows you to see firsthand how poorly and rushed Square implemented the economy system in there compared to other titles, and said rush becomes then more apparent in other facets as well.

My favourite game of all time is Final Fantasy X. I've put a thousand hours into it over the last twenty years. So when the HD release came out I decided that I MUST get the platinum for it. Well... I'm at around 98% because I decided that dodging 200 lightning bolts in a row wasn't worth my mental health. I think there may be some kind of input lag on this version which you can also see on the chocobo races when ''steering'' the bird. Anyway, like you say, you need to step away eventually lol.

A few more hard truths (that might overlap with some of what you said): -Loving a game or a series does not mean you will love trophy hunting said game or series. -Trophy hunting generally gives you more mileage out of your games, but it also takes away from time you could be playing other games more casually. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not. -Your friends will either not care at all about your trophies, or they will care way too much. Neither prospect is doing favors for your mental health if you're fixated on external factors influencing your gaming decisions. -Reviews are not the be-all and end-all, but it's worth finding a few reviewers whose tastes jive with yours, particularly if you are looking to complete games and don't want to sacrifice time on aggregate review scores. For example, I love JRPGs so I take what Dunkey says with a huge grain of salt, but if you don't care for JRPGs generally but want to dabble, you might find more value in the few he actually recommends.

For me using a guide it really depends on the length of the game. A game like Dishonored I didn't mind just casually playing through the game first to experience it because it's short. A game like Yakuza 0 though I've been using a guide because with open world games I like to do the open world stuff as soon as I'm able too because I want to avoid a long end game grind in these scenarios but I know not everyone completes like that

Either youre gonna lose passion and stop hunting, or it will consume your gaming life. Im at a point where i barely remember a time when i didnt trophy hunt. I literally cant not get the platinum in a game. Thete are amazing games i just wont play because i know i wont get the platinum. I only recently played the last of us on my pc because i knew i wouldnt want to do grounded to get the platinum. Same with Elden Ring. Bought it on steam to avoid it being on my list uncompleted. The thing about guides, a lot of them will tell you how far to play before you start trophy huntin, "play to x level, finish x mission, beat the gaame, etc THEN start using our guide" for example in gta V its recommended to play to the mission Lamar Down, and then start using a guide. that's the majority of the game right there you can enjoy at your own pace spoiler free and only worry about guides once you're near the end

Great video 👍. I can relate to a lot of these truths: - #1: I luckily only got burned out by a single series and it is the Lego-Franchise. It is mainly because the platinum journey is mostly the same for all of them. I still have 2 games in my backlog but I won't buy any new Lego games soon. - #2: Generally I am very good at judging if I'm going to like or dislike a game but I have ignored my judgement a few times and bought games because many people praised them. While I ended up enjoying some of them there were also some games I didn't like. Good examples for popular games I didn't like are ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. - #3: For me it highly depends on the game if I follow a guide. I really enjoy going into some games mostly blind and only look at the guide for missable items/side quests - #5: Some of the trophies in ICO (

I think another hard truth is using a guide can seriously ruin the experience for you. I'll always use a guide because i value my time and dont want to miss missable trophies, but this can put you off certain genre of games. For example i used a very detailed guide for until dawn and being forced to pick certain choices that we're not my own made the game soooo boring. I have avoided all interactive choice based games since i platinumed Until Dawn.

lol I can relate fully, I’m a full time graveyard shift security guard and basically on a full night routine to where I sleep all day long for work and then Monday and Tuesday mornings I’m off work at 5:30 am. So Tuesday I’m basically gaming til 2:30 pm and go to bed and then game all night long So I’ve realized I won’t platinum everything fast or get all achievements fast either so I pace myself with it. Only platinums I got on a old account were bioshock 2, infamous first light, infamous second son Have two separate psn accounts One I play on with my brother Then my KZbin/trophy hunting/Zoning out account, then an uncle to 3 and youngest is almost 3 years old, so if anything one I’m in Utah with my mom so she can be near the grandkids If she’s babysitting the youngest one, it’s come watch uncle T play games Great video and watching at work and subbed to you dude

Certain games I’ve walked away from due to glitched trophies or if you didn’t 100% each level before leaving them & moving on screws you for a platinum as even starting a brand new save doesn’t give you another opportunity (in this case it was Serial Cleaner - really fun game but man that destroyed all enthusiasm of getting the platinum when I found out I could get the platinum) other games I’ve enjoyed but just couldn’t get the platinum for was Flame Over & Hotline Miami (you covered this a while back) as you say take a breathe and move onto another game. Btw you might enjoy the craziness of Adventure Pals - a kid with a giraffe as helicopter/weapon and a rock as he rescues his friends after they are turned into hotdogs

Granted it took me about 6 months to complete all the games and I did sprinkle in a few other games into the mix but I overall I enjoyed it. KH3 was easy but I do pride myself at beating it on hard on my first playthrough with zero deaths. A small win for an average gamer like myself.

I can see why point 1 is a thing, luckily it doesn't apply to me. I've platinum'd Uncharted 1-3, Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Mass Effect 1-3 back to back (within a game series) and in all three cases what I was left with was a light sense of depression: "I can't believe it's done already, I want to play more of these". Perhaps it was due to the series' lenght, none of those games exceed 30 hours.

I definitely had some days that i was like is this really worth it and it was taking te fun out of the game for me, more like a job to finish my list of games is WANTED to play. I have mixed feelings about trophy hunting, i fucking love it but i also wouldn't recommend it to anyone 😂 I'd say if u dont have lots of time and there are lots of games u want to play dont start it, or just select ones u really love to platinum. Moving on i will pick 3/4 new games a year i really want to play and platinum, i'm looking forward to that, it's gonna be fun.😊 Proud of how far you have grown man, and proud to say i was with u from the start❤

Aiming for 💯 percent profile is always a losing battle, and will drive u nuts. Having a good overall percentage however is worthwhile. You can always come back to a game years later, kinda rediscover it and knock of the rest. My profiles full of games it taken 3 to 6 years to finish. May take me awhile to get to it but i know ill go back eventually to finish it. Good feeling finally knocking it off.

Look I might be in the minority but I'd rather be slightly sour about a game than absolutely hating it because I have to do another whole playthrough with collectibles because I missed a collectible that you can only get on a missable quest with a missable NPC that only shows up on a Saturday night with the lights off. I can grind some monotonous stuff but a whole playthrough of something that could have been easily avoided by reading even a text guide with possibly some minor spoilers just ain't it chief. Point 1 is so right. I wanted to get the platinum for God of War just before the launch of Ragnarok - because of work and life I ended up taking too long to get the plat, I missed the launch of Ragnarok by over a WHOLE MONTH whilst I finished off the collectables and valkyries in GoW, I felt worn out by the God of War gameplay before I'd even jumped in to Ragnarok. It is now September 2023 and I STILL haven't finished Ragnarok because I can't commit to it and having that series drag on for a year of my life now has totally soured Playstation 4 and 5's best games. Spider-Man 2 is out next month in a year where I've missed the launches of Resident Evil 4, Jedi Survivor, Final Fantasy, and Baldur's Gate 3 because I've been stuck on Ragnarok and refusing to move on without the plat - but the longer I'm on this game, the longer it will take me to finish. I'll sometimes go 2 or 3 weeks without launching it, I want to drop it but I'm so close to finishing the story but cba. I wish I'd played GoW and then waited a year to play Ragnarok, but I was so scared of spoilers that I had to play right away, and now a 60 hour game has taken me 9 months to finish.

I used to really care about getting 100% in games until I took a look at what that actually means. Usually going around a map getting pointless collectables, replaying a game just because there's a ng+ achievement, or some other random grind to inflate play time. Now I will only go for it if I really liked the game after a 1st playthrough or the achievements actually sound like a fun thing to do and not a checklist. Also, sometimes I would look at the achievement list before even playing the game and end up not playing the game because a few achievements sounded very unenjoyable. Which meant I ended up missing out on some really good games.

I agree with what you said about burnout. It’s honestly humbling when you have to walk away from something because getting the trophies is too much. At the end of the day, if the game isn’t enjoyable to play, why suffer the torture? Especially considering your last point that in 5 years from now, gaming could be a thing of the past. So better enjoy every moment doing it, rather than making it feel like a job.

I can somewhat relate with this video. I've only been trophy hunting for 4-ish years and i've had phases where i tell myself, "Just get this game platted, and never plat a game again". Right now i'm about to finish my Demon's Souls platinum playthrough, which will make it my 100th platinum. I keep telling myself that i'll end my platinum journey and go back to playing games normally after I hit these a triple digit platinum count.....but i think we both know that isn't happening. The moment i hear that jingle that plays when i pop a platinum, my mind rewrites all the negative memories i've had with a game that put me through hell to get the platinum for (for eg, Yakuza 7) and tells me "Hey, it wasn't that bad, you got the platinum, that's all you wanted, right?", and i'm back in the loop of chasing the next high from a platinum. I'm not sure how much longer i can keep doing this, but i am in a point in my life when i do have the time/energy to be playing games solely for their platinum trophy. Maybe in the future when circumstances change and i have obligations once again like school/work, i could see myself dropping platinums all together and only playing games for what they are meant for - FUN! But until that day comes, I'm gonna keep racking up that platinum count for my own gratification. Thank you for making this video. I guess i'll see where I am after 3 more years of trophy hunting and self-reflect the way you just did. Maybe i'll feel the same. Now if you'll excuse me....I got a 100th platinum to pop xD. Edit: It is done.

I'd say the first one dependent on series. Your example of Yakuza, sure, I feel like I'd die if I tried to do that series back to back 😅 but I did the Devil May Cry series back to back and aside from rushing through DMC2 (and pretending it didn't exist) I had the best time. I love the talk about recognition, I find too many people trophy hunt for validation, especially those who grind rarer trophies and the hard truth is literally no one cares. I mean, to those who do think people care, just take one moment to look at your profile views on PSNP (considering half of them would be themselves checking their own profile) it's just not many and even then if someone's 'impressed' it's usually a simple 'oh that's cool' acknowledgement, no one is truly worshipping or fawning over your profile. Enjoyment has to come before worrying how your profile looks to complete strangers.

Platinuming Game franchises is definitely true, although i still love the devil may cry games some games like star ocean take the mick and I'm not much of a vet them it comes to those games and don't play a lot of jrpgs that often due to time sink but i did want to try the games out regardless if i don't get platinum on any of them or not Sacrificing the blind play through is true also, you don't want to backtrack again with the trophies I've missed first time and i want to plan and get everything in one swoop which is why i skip a lot of games these days because of either the grinding or the missables, or just rush in headstrong and see how it goes, a recent approach for me recently as i want to just enjoy the gsmes for what they are instead of just planning constantly Correct and i find this issue often with ratings for trophy guides, just because they find the game easy, it doesn't mean others will True, some games are just not worth the investment or time required for platinum and that is ok there will always be other games to enjoy thst are far more reasonable Yes correct, eventually you will get burnout and get fed up of trophy hunting in the end, like in my situation, it's a liberating feeling when you can start a game up and not give a dam anymore about trophies and to enjoy the game for what it is and do whatever you want in that game without having to play a certain way, I've thrown in the towel and moved onto better pastures 😊😊 yes i find i spend more time going out with mates, socialising and doing other activities mcuh less stressful and I'm enjoying it because of that

Great Video - Pretty sure you nailed all the main points there. Just surprised that with regard to point 2 you didn’t name and shame Vault Boy Steve again for recommending Hotline Miami - 😂 They key things for me are definitely to always play something that you enjoy and to do it in moderation. I started gaming regularly in 2010 and I still enjoy it the same today so those principles seem to be working well.

Thanks Goopybaby. I’m name and shamed Steve enough ahaha although it’s not just him who has given me bad gaming recommendations

I think the hardest truth of trophy hunting for me is just time and the money to buy games.
