I'd be interested to hear how the non-casting magic wielding classes learned to use their skills. Originally a subtlety rogue was just a sneaky person who used very physical objects (powder to blind, rocks to distract, and even more powder to vanish). In legion they got reworked to become extremely adept shadow magic wielders who used the power of shadow to do the stuff they did before. It was a great direction to take the class, but no one really taught them how to do it. They just start out with a dagger stabbing people, and after stabbing enough people they can start teleporting, blinding, stealthing even in well-lit areas etc.

It's not like they pick and choose you based on something that ISN'T your willpower and strength of character. You earn your power as a Shaman, you don't just study or grasp it like other casters.

It's not super in-depth but it doesn't need to be; you've made an amazing primer for people who might not be up to date on the new lore Chronicle introduced as well as people who didn’t know the stuff to begin with. I love that you emphasized how diverse interpretations can be by simply making good comedy out of those topics (the schools of arcane magic, for instance). I don’t know any real lore about goblins and their shamanism, but my head cannon is that since they use a literal drill as their “totems,” they are essentially fracking for elemental power, enslaving the elements in a sense. A shaman’s ability to use elemental power can be taken away/refused, but not if you completely force the elements to serve you (which we have seen shamans do before in the lore.) It’s a clever and funny way of expressing the shaman magic combined with modern technology, in my opinion.

Worth noting that necromancy can be achieved through basically any form of magic. It’s a school of arcane It can be done through death magic (surprise!) The light can apparently raise people into undeath I believe drust use nature magic for necromancy And I’m sure there’s an example of void necromancy somewhere. Edit: forgot fel, guldan used fel to create the first death knights, orc warlock souls transplanted into human corpses.

I would like to mention that the Light itself is also a cosmic entity that bestows its power to those who fallow the Light's "vision" or "path". It does not care what it's power is used for as long as it apply to what the Light's plan. You lose these powers when the Light disagrees with you or if it doesn't help in the overall Light's goal. For example the Scarlet Crusade can kill all the innocent people and undead they want and still use light/holy magic, but when Arthas uses his power to do the same the Light abandons him.

13:37 dude, dude... you should hear about their progenitors the Death Knights from DnD. Their backstory on how they came to be, is pretty brutal. You have to be a fully committed paladin who undertakes some gruesome sin like killing your own soldiers or murdering your family, commit some rituals, kill like 30 some odd people, and you become completely immune to all physical damage and can't be destroyed unless your weapon is destroyed because it houses your soul from earlier rituals, and a whole bunch of crazy shit. DnD lore was really well written and I only appreciate it more as newer writers tainted by the dark influence of corporate revenue streams corrupted the talents and subverted many more into unholy economic efficiency.

Not all shamans must trade with the elements in order to access their powers. There is a taunka during the vashj ir questline that says that he can command the elements without having to do anything for them and that he would not want it any other way. Also there's the famous boat builder from the kul tiran unlock questline who literally just wanted help from whoever and the elements came without her having planned it.

Tauren are the only player character race that doesn't use fel or arcane magic, the two highly corrupting forms of magic. Tauren fel and arcane mages are rare but that doesn't mean they are non existent. I'm saying this because you can't just look at a race and think "they all act like this". I like playing characters that are unique. My goblin shaman does their best to treat the elements with respect knowing that a contract is more efficient if both parties are willing and eager to help each other out. Just saying you can play whatever you want as long as it fits in with how the world works, not just within the limits of how some people think races have to act.

Fel guards, doom guards, succubi, and other such demons were NEVER uncorrupted; they were born of the Twisting Nether itself, and have always been demons. Also, Eredar were NOT once Draenei; it's the other way around. Draenei were once Eredar, but changed their name to "exiled ones" in their language after their planet was corrupted and the term "Eredar" came to be synonymous with "Demon". ALSO, the broken were NOT created by "rejecting the influence of the fel". Seriously dude, where are you getting all this info? This is all basic stuff from Chronicle AND previous lore that you're just getting wrong. The broken were created when the orcs unleashed a Fel mist on Shattrath that severed their connection to the Light.

Kinda sad how they don't care about race / class restrictions anymore and the logic behind. Remember when Tauren Paladins had to be introduced late Wrath for the incoming expansion? "You don't want to do that. You think you do, but you don't." Anyways not to come off as a negative comment. Really love your content man, the perfect combination of details, humor and memeish edits. Why couldnt they be paladins? Lorewise they are not like human paladins... instead of using the power of the moon they are using the power of the sun, which makes sense for them since they have a bug history with their relationship with moon/sun.. i guess they could have been Paladins before that but i just dont understand how players decides when /they/ are not resoecting X aspect of a game THEY are making

New combinations DO make sense, like dwarven mages appeared when the dark iron clan rejoined the alliance. They have been none forever to be magic wielders.

You guys missed my point. I have no issues with Dwarf / Night Elf Mages, Human Hunters, etc. those are totally fine. What I was referring to was races & combinations like Panda Death Knights for example. Blizzard didn’t REALLY care about that when it come to lore. Demon Hunters being NE & BE only is excellent according to lore. But something random like Draenei DH? I know it doesn’t exist. But if it did, that’d be odd.

One of my favorite thing on Warcraft is that every side of gods magic etc aren’t directly evil they just different. And since most of living being born on Azeroth are from light, arcane and life therefore it makes void, chaos and death looks evil but they actually aren’t just another force who think they have the full rights to exist to be something. Like pandarie is best to strive harmony
