Plato's Idealism or Platonic Idealism is frequently asked in CSS, PMS, UPSC and IAS. Plato's Idealism deals with the enquiry of reality. Plato states that reality lies in Ideas. Ideas are the only real beings. Ideas cannot be perceived through sense perception. In fact, Ideas are the objects of thought which can be known through reason alone. All other sensible objects in the phenomenal world are tend to change and destruction. Therefore, sensible objects of phenomenal world cannot be called as reality. Plato's Idealism starts with highlighting the shortcomings in the phenomenal world. After that, he moves on to provide arguments about Ideas, which he considers the ultimate real beings. Plato also sheds light upon how sensible objects participate in general ideals. Not only that, Plato's Idealism also elucidates some crucial features of ideas. Moving onward, Plato talks about the world of ideas where the original ideas reside in a hierarchical manner. According to hierarchy, ideas are divided into lower and higher order. And among all those ideas, idea of Good is the highest and supreme idea. Plato's Idealism uses allegory of cave to further strengthen their argument about the Idea of Good. Like all other theories, Plato's Idealism has been criticised severely on several grounds.

Phenomenal literally means perceived by the senses... Noumenal means that which exists independently of human senses or perceptions... Is lye Phenomenal world kaha jata hai. Aur ye baat thek hai k sensible objects in the phenomenal world are mere copies/ subcopies or shadows of Original Ideas.... In Platonic thought, idea is an eternally existing pattern of which individual things in any class are imperfect copies.
