Great video! Born On The 4th of July is painful to watch, because it perfectly shows that we are all just one accident away from going through hell. Love the cinematography, especially the battle and aftermath scenes during golden hour. What helps a lot is that it was shot on more modern film stock (mostly the fantastic Eastman EXR negative) and in 35mm anamorphic, which uses more image area. Platoon looks very similar to Aliens and very likely uses the exact same mid 1980s film stock (not indicated on IMDb), heavily emphasizing blues and greens. It's also rather grainy in 1.85:1 35mm spherical, which uses less image area than anamorphic. I apologize for my nerd talk.

You’re right about our lives being one accident away from going through hell. My life changing accident didn’t take place until 3 weeks after my discharge, after I came home and a tire exploded in my face while changing a tire off the rim of my own pickup truck. In a split instant, everything that I was looking forward to in life changed. I was 21 years old and that was in the year 2000. I had dreams of firefighting, getting my pilot’s license and a life full of adventure in a land far away. Seizures and mental injuries, as well as a shattered right arm brought that to a halt and I’m forced to do what I can do. I’ve struggled mentally with this since then, but here I am living in Southern Illinois, (the armpit of America). I have everything that I could need and mostly want and a job working in a factory making a living wage as a number on the work floor, closely in contact with former members of that unit, so I’m not being a cry baby. Just verifying that don’t take your life of granted. It can all change in an instant. Do what you can while you’re young and able.

I'm going to respectfully disagree, I've been to jungles around the world and never heard that hissing noise. I think its just bad audio. But thank you for watching

These are two of my favorite growing up. I saw Platoon more times over. It just had such an emtional drive. With a complex nature of war and the children we send to die. Born on the 4th was great. But I didn't watch it as much. I was busier then. But I just re-watched it and the one take away..Was how good TC is in it. The argument that he played the same role over and over is BS.. when you put this, Interview with a Vampire, and Collateral. There is range. And there's never a time he phoned it in. The Entire cast of BOT4th killed. William Dafoe is brilliantly raw. Good upload!!

Personally, the most hard hitting war movie of all time is Kubrick's Paths of Glory. Id put these two on par. The Dear Hunter is another outstanding Vietnam movie. Not much battle but shows the other side of things, more like 4th July

To be fair in Real life. During Ron Kovic's second Tour. Ron Kovic's unit, The 1st AMTRACT Battalion 3rd Marines Division, had M14s during that time. HOWEVER in real life one month before Ron Kovic's crippling injury they switched to the M16s.

"Platoon" is the better one! And the best Vietnam war movie is "Hamburger Hill" (1988).

I'd have to say Platoon is better than Hamburger Hill.

17:25 Oliver Stone's side of the story said that a new recruit by the name of Private First Class Wilson was killed by accident. Ron Kovic's book said that a corporal from Georgia was killed by accident. Stone left out a lot of things that Kovic included in his book. 17:46 You cannot tell if the man who rescued the wounded man was in the Marines; he could have been a Navy Corpsman.

If you like these movies, you really should watch P.O.W. The escape. A rather corny vietnam movie with a really awesome storyline with some seriously good acting. It stars David Carradine. Great video bud.

as amazing as Platoon was, it was only the beginning for Stone and his directing, and while I find it does have some flaws - the story and directing is a hell of a job for being Stone's early work considering most directors don't even come close to the amazing writing and okay cinematography Platoon has by the time they're at the end of their careers. Especially in the 80's.
