Whoa the chord variations at the end is super helpful, no one ever talks about that! Does it work with other song/chords too? Do other, like the A, B , F chords, have such variations?
@GaryLucasMusic4 жыл бұрын
Yes, every chord can be played in a variety of ways. You can add different "colours" to a chord by adding or removing notes. In Avril's songs, the most common are 9ths, minor7ths and sus4. I find chord theory so fascinating! Thanks for watching!
@lyzzywho26912 жыл бұрын
Is there any special key any of these should be in?
@GaryLucasMusic2 жыл бұрын
No - I think it is best to put it in the key which best suits your voice. Although if you can sing it in the original key (which is the key I'm playing in for each demonstration) then that would be ideal if you want to create a sound reminiscent of the original song.

Im either really friggin dumn or really friggin new but as I sit to try to play it I feel loke im missing a beat or something in the strumming pattern. Are you just going down updownupdown updownupdown updownupdown ...hope that makes sense but first tutorial I ever learn off youtube the guy said the strum pattern too. And I tend to suck at picking it up myself it seems. I'm only on the first song you have on here #forevernewb 🙈
@GaryLucasMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Ah keep going and I'm sure it will make sense. Strumming patter s can be hard at first. I didn't talk about the strumming patterns at all in this video but many people in the comments have asked about them so I might do a whole video focusing on that. The way you wrote the strumming pattern is exactly right for the first song - great stuff! Keep Holding On is in 3/4 timing (like a waltz) whereas the other songs are the more typical 4/4 and tend to be easier.
@Merinet892 жыл бұрын
@@GaryLucasMusic oooo ok that makes sense! I can do 3/4 timing on trumpet but never thought about it on guitar 😂 you might have just solved the mysteryfor me for this and another song I struggled and failed for lile two years! Id love to see if you remake this. I struggled a bit on the second too. Not sp much the strumming but you did the chorus but not the verse lol. Not to be critical though, I really do appreciate your videos and especially how fast you get back to me in the comments... What time is it over there? Aren't you loke 5 hours ahead of me (im in Canada)?
@Merinet892 жыл бұрын
bought a new guitar today instead of borrowing my roommates and seem to be getting it better. If you do decide to do these ones again though, would you please consider playing the parts a tad longer? Or if you have done these songs as a cover, link me maybe? I have listen to several of your others, love them all. Your tutorial is definitely better than others i have found for these songs and I am glad I came across it
@GaryLucasMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@Merinet89 I'll definitely take all the comments into account if I decide to do another tutorial video. I didn't want the video to be too long and figured people would pause the video and take it back a minute or so if they need to hear something again (this is what I do when I watch tutorial videos). Fantastic that you've bought a new guitar for yourself - I bet that will make a big difference. Good luck!
