Wow! Playing through with you and on Exercise 5. Playing B and C above staff much more clearly, calmly. I bought the stamps warm up book a long time ago but am only now getting in to it with your fine online example. I'm a 50 year retread; quit playing in high school, 1972 ,and picked it up again a year ago to participate in a local New Horizons band. Subscribed and bookmarked. Your youtube channel is a great service. Thank you for the sacrifice and effort to help students like myself!

I’m glad I found this. I took lessons from James “Jimmy”’Stamp from 1969-1972 while in college. I’d drive to his Hollywood home and his small bedroom “studio”. Little did I know at the time I was in the presence of genius and one of the most revered trumpet teachers ever. The warm ups still work 54 years later.

Interesting! I was in Reseda taking lessons from Claude Gordon during that time.

Excellent stuff. Have played Stamp on and off over the years and have come to the same conclusion that you mentioned...that if played too loud my chops and aperture tend to spread too much. But dialing back the volume this all felt so much better. A seemingly small detail but one that seems to make a world of difference. Nice job!

Merci pour cette vidéo. Je reprends la trompette après une année d'arrêt et ce travail abordé progressivement va vraiment m'aider.

Thanks for posting this. I got up to high Bb in a couple days, which, when starting from low/pedal...is a new thing. This keeps me on track and is helpful!!

I love your channel, its great for the trumpet community. The Schlossberg play along helped me me. I am having a hard time following you this time however, the pages in the 9th edition I'm using don't line up with the edition you're using. Even with that said it is good to finally hear Stamp. Thanks

The lip buzz is SUPPOSED to be an octave below the mouthpiece buzz, so you’re doing the exercises absolutely correctly. According to Mr. Stamp, if the lip buzz produces the same notes as the mouthpiece buzz, there is excess tension in the lips.

please what trumpet and mouthpiece do you use in this video?

Hello good sir, I am a fan of your playing, but I am struggling to play the pedal tones and come back up to the staff notes with the same feeling and sound. Perhaps I'm over adjusting.

Dear Mr..... Hope you don’t mind if I share with you a few thoughts? In my humble opinion playing the STAMP METHOD so softly (unless is an issue concerning the audio) would give problems due to the excessive lip tension creating some muscle atrophy and even more the air thrust would pass into second order. What do you think?

Hi, thanks for your comment. I find playing this material in the mezzo dynamic to be more beneficial for me then say at forte or fortissimo. I tend to think that working toward easy delivery in the lower dynamics helps to remove tension rather than induce it. If I can get a good consistent “poo“ attack at piano or pianissimo, I have achieved good balance. So staying somewhere in the MP to MF area is where I like to be, especially for routine work where my goal is maintenance.
