Thanks for the great lesson Jay!! It would be great to see you take a standard chord progression and show us some different ways to embellish those chords to spice things up. I am pretty well versed in the Hendrix style type embellishments but am looking for some different approaches. This lesson really helped me to approach the chords more dynamically so thanks. You a very talented guitarist/musician, amazing player. Rhythm guitar drives the music, works closely with drums and base. Im not a lead player..it doesnt interest me. Although sometimes i like to embed some basic lead chords with my rhythms. Weaving riffs with rhythm play is my thing. Rhythm guitar is the heart and soul.

I think with content like this you can begin to recruit new types of viewers to your channel, ie those not merely interested in gear reviews but also wanting to develop their skills too. (The subscription base of the Dutch guitarist PD is largely built on this design, I believe). With that in mind I would mention the following: You've likely got an IQ that's way up there, and thus you are naturally probably a quick study and in temperament, probably naturally fairly impatient. This is all good - not a criticism, just an observation... but do bear in mind that most of the people out there are ... ...not of that profile. I'm going out on a limb here as I really don't have data but my guess is that the bulk (the big hump in the Gaussian curve) of those on YT looking for guitar tips, licks and techniques are probably in the beginner to intermediate camp - with the majority of them being lower intermediate. Teaching this level of player who typically has, let us say, an "average" amount of natural talent, is a bit like driving on snow. If you hit the gas with too much gusto, your wheels will just spin, everyone ends up with slush in their faces, and you may veer off your desired trajectory... so to speak. In a didactic environment you want to play in such a way as to inspire (and instill hope), yet not so OTT and so 'pyrotechnically' or in such a manner as may be intimidating or demoralising to a prospective viewer/learner. (where they are left feeling dizzy and thinking, sheesh he's playing waay beyond my level and he's moving way to fast). Obviously there's no right or wrong answer here, every teacher has there own approach, but finding the optimal balance between inspiring people, encouraging people and enabling people is probably where the (channel) growth is. Again, PD-in-the-Netherland's 'tempo' in this regard, is close to perfect, in the sense that it is exciting enough to inspire, yet he is careful to make it accessible or 'attainable' enough to be inviting. Kind of like the difference between a pretty girl-next-door vs a super-model - which one is going to be the one who gets approached at the bar? Exactly. If it's too, or only, 'high-voltage', it can be a bit stand off-ish or intimidating. PD's channel manages to consistently hit that 'girl-next-door' attainability sweet-spot in terms of presentation and pedagogical tempo. I think this video is actually very close, but may yet struggle to gain traction in the popular imagination. What would tip it over the edge into YT gold would be a for example, taking your practical example of the G D C... if you walk people through an elementary sequence including some basic runs that connect the chords in a stylish way. That way the viewer has something to 'take home in their doggy bag' so to speak (give them a bone to chew on for the week). The way you teach it at the moment it is still slightly more at a conceptual level, which is good and necessary ...but not complete. Merely demonstrating the techniques means the experience reamains too abstract. Whilst showcasing what can be achieved with an all bells and whistles rendition is good and necessary to inspire... the learner will nevertheless want to have a skeleton version carefully demo-ed with a walk-through (camera angles may need to be considered here). Perhaps this sounds a little tedious and like spoon-feeding. Maybe. But then the medium is YT - that's the audience. My best guess (and it is just that, a guess) is that fine tuning the teaching style is your key. Gotta go and practice my plucking now :)
