The lessons given here remind me of an interview I read years ago with a pro. He was asked what he thought the main difference was between pros and amateurs. "The amateur looks at the ball and thinks, 'what's the best way to hit the ball from this lie?' The pro thinks, 'what's the best way to get the ball into the hole from here?'" I always keep that in mind when I go out to play now, and I'm glad to see it's still advocated by top players like Ms. Ling. This was great to watch.

There is so much value in your videos Gen. You can't stress enough how golf exposes one's way of thinking, and also insecurities and sometimes not too positive aspects of the personality. That's why a cheater in life will always be a cheater on a golf course. I agree 100% with you about the importance of knowing your golf as much as you can. My golf coach is very adamant that I just focus on the trajectory visualization. Being more of a fade player, I learned to take that into account when selecting my stance on a teebox. And being reasonably skilled with my short game (after some very hard work I may say...), I play some holes differently than before because I am confident I can work as long as I am not too far trom the green. You talk a lot of the mental side of the game, which is a massive contributing factor to our performance. I know it took me some years to realize I was not "fit" to competitive golf because it makes me focusing too much on the scorecard and not on the fun of the game. So I basically took that out of the equation (a massive difference with you as a pro because by the way). I never do the math, with the scorecard and to me a good round would be when I had : some great shots (whatever the kind : can be a drive, a crisp iron, a creative recovery, a great putt), some good holes (even with a bogey) and a good "strech" (when I can have 2/3/4 decent holes in a row). lower expectations (for me) is pivotal to produce my best golf. Thanks for the videos, you are a star Gen!

Loved that you break down golf to little simple mind like me :-) Got a question for you.... What do you think when you decide to tee up with a tee or without a tee? I know with my iron, I do not use a tee on the tee box. But I may want to know what I miss by taking this decision.... maybe a video to talk about the subject.

Great to hear inputs from a pro. My two cents on playing better golf: 1) manage expectations and expect bad shots - I don't care if you're a scratch, low or mid capper - everyone will hit bad shots. 2) limit swing thoughts - go to the range before hand and see which swing thought is working for you. Max of 2. One would be better. 3) think 10 times before shooting at the pin - even pros don't shoot for every single pin - getting on the dance floor and 2 putting for a par is just as good as shooting the pin and making 2 putts anyway. 4) don't be discouraged if you get a bogey - everyone makes a bogey - just avoid doubles (and triples!). 5) there is a start and end to each hole - play each hole individually - if you made a birdie - forget about it, move on to the next hole. Same goes if you make a bogey or double.

I'm thinking hamburger two seconds before I trigger the shot - haha, just kidding... great tip Gen, like you said pick a small target. I do a full swing just like the real swing, if that swing did not feel good, swing it again. go up, look at the target again, then go for it.. for me.. it is all my take away... if I can remember to trigger a slower take away and finish the swing.. it would be a good one.

Interesting! When I go through the process, I hope to acquire a calmness where I feel everything is OK for a particular shot. I have a target. I never worry about the outcome. Yet, after the shot has been played, I often feel that perhaps I was not 100% committed, if that makes sense!

Another great video Gen. Nice play in AR this week. I have a Q for your swing caddie SC200. Does that unit calculate club head speed? I get very different numbers based on smash factor, like Clubspeed 111mph smash factor 1.32, clubspeed 102 smash 1.46. I'm confused clubhead speed of 110 for ex is 110 whether you shank it or flush it, right, ball speed would vary of course?? I need to try a swing speed monitor that works with no ball. SC200 doesn't do that.
@MPerski

Right before I “pull the trigger”, I think “start the club back with club face closed (facing the ball) and club head outside of hands” The rest of the swing just happens. It happens too fast to think about “positions”, so I just think about the START of the swing. Then I think about tempo … “1-2-3, then HIT!” What do you think? 🤔

Confused. What is your target on drive of par 3? Mine would have been the front of the center of the green? Also what about hitting off a tee? That is higher trajectory for me. Just had a lesson on this so I am curious on your take.

@Steve Coffey I think she is trying to tell you to go with what YOU are comfortable with. NOT what a pro would do or think. There is no wrong decision if you are playing to YOUR abilities. We are all putting too much unnecessary pressure on ourselves to be pros. We aren't pros.

Apart from the lie, I’m thinking about my next shot all the way walking to my ball. Because I have a general idea of how far I’m out from the hole and I have a general idea of what club I want to hit. the only thing I don’t know yet is the lie. So it really doesn’t take me long to get up there and hit it unless it’s a poor lie then I do have to think more.
