It's so incredibly helpful to find something this focussed and detailed. This is exactly how I need to be instructed. I find myself chomping at the bit to get behind my kit and try out all your advice. I've been playing a month now, and I haven't missed a day's practise. You are so inspiring and helpful, I'm very grateful to have found you on KZbin!! Today I managed to play the groove on day 16 of your guide, which was so tricky for me with the constant left foot chicks. I honestly love this journey I've started at 62! Thank you!

Stephen, what I love about your teaching is obviously your non glamorous approach, but above all your ability to answer all the questions that arise in my mind while watching your videos, the very moment they do! That means you really know how to take the viewer's/student's seat.

GREAT lesson! I've long had trouble barking but this helps tremendously. Thanks and cheers.

hi Steven, My name is Ivan. I am just starting my drumming journey. Wanted to thank you for the lessons. I practiced hihat barks today, and it was great. Keep doing the great work you do! 👍🥁

Non-glamorous drummer adapt, overcome, improvise.... a board on an old drum hoop as a laptop shelf. This is one of the things I like about your videos.

Very helpful ! I'm a big Matt Cameron fan and he tends to add a lot of barks throughout his playing. Will be working on this.

It's a great upgrade. And you don't have to lay out hundreds for a Roland VH. I've had good luck with a $60 Chinese controller and the stock HH cymbal from my old TD-11.

Live Wire - Motley Crue. Tommy does great work on the hats. Barks. Chicks. They even solo it. Matt Cameron on Outshined too.

A good song to practice regular barks might be "Swing Town" by the Steve Miller Band😊

Charlie Watts plays those barks all the time, sounds really great but isn't easy to copy. Pretty much any more recent Rolling Stones song. Miss You has a lot of good hi-hat work. Also, She's So Cold. Aerosmith, Walk This Way. Led Zep - Fools In the Rain. Bill Withers - Use Me. Welcome To Wherever You Are - INXS. You can google more yourself :) Half those songs I never heard...

That's the first song that came to me also! I'm way far from being able to play the whole song, but running the main groove is great practice for this.

Bark, is that what it's called now?
@ArenBMcLovin Жыл бұрын
Hmm 🤔, so that’s what it’s called. I personally feel that tha quality of tha spring that lifts back up yur hi-hat pedal plays a major roll on how hard it is to play “barks” on tha hats. I play heel down and have to put a lot of effort into keeping my hats completely closed bkuz of tha unusually stiff spring in my hi-hat stand which ruins my barks technique.

Jeez so that's what they're called, I've been wondering what those funky things on Geek USA were called for years. I suppose I could've just asked, but where's the fun it that.

Too much intro, precaution or weak points. Would be better to use precious seconds for details. Such as Kick on Left stick alternate with Kick with Right Hihat. Or counting.
