Fantastic. Such memories!! Used to listen to this when I was a kid. Just found it after hearing the flip side, Buzz Buzz Buzz. Thanks sooo much!!

Just heard this on the opening credits of 1958's "Violent Playground". Not the most sophisticated of songs, but Johnny's vocal is neat as hell!

WOW! The last time I saw The Violent Playground was in 1964. That was back when the whole family watched one TV. Did Johnny Luck make any other songs?

Watching "Violent Playground" right now on TCM, a young David McCallum before Illya Kuryakin. This song sounded very Wanda Jackson-ish, in fact I thought it was her.

Admittedly, this sounded better on the movie, but still good stuff, thanks for sharing!

I agree! The movie version sounded so much better, it had more intensity.

Johnny Luck, doubt if it was his real name was a Kid from Edinburgh's Leith district.On the strength of it he topped the bill at the Edinburgh Empire with his adoring young screaming local fans. I never heard of him again.

-When Violent Playground came out in England in 1958, America had been dealing with delinquency for years already. They wouldn't even show America's 1955 movies Blackboard Jungle, Rumble On The Docks, Crime In The Streets or Rebel Without A Cause for some years, for fear of inciting jd gang incidents over in the UK. But looks like it happened anyway.
@Jillybeth5 жыл бұрын
Film was intended as a teen delinquency study, like "Blackboard Jungle." First seen in the US years after its UK release -- not for its own sake, but b/c of the Beatles' and David McCallum's popularity in the '60s. Will be presented this coming Sat. (6/1/2019) on Turner Classic Movies at 10:45 pm Eastern.

@John M Smythe Saw the movie by chance, thought "Play Rough" was the best part!

@John M Smythe That's one thing I like abt TCM; they show films that seem to have gone out of memory everywhere else. :-)

Anyone have a bio on Mr. Johnny Luck? Nothing on the Net that i could find.
@onthegoldenline8 жыл бұрын
I wonder if 'Violent Playground' was the working title of the Frankie Vaughan masterpiece 'Those Dangerous Years' . Also, I wonder of Johnny Luck (where is he now?) isn't the one and only 'Little Johnny' (of The Three Teenagers fame [Decca]).

Has anyone ever seen this film? I have never heard of it, and would like to know if this is early British Rock 'N' Roll film.

Nick Lopez The film is on you tube and can be picked up cheaply on EBay.It's not a Rock & Roll movie at all, this is the only song featured and and it isn't performed in the film, but it does feature in it.
