what's considered a good or a bad bishop ?
@StubbeA
@StubbeA Жыл бұрын
Look at the pawn structures. A dark bishop behind a dark-square pawn chain is hard to maneuvre, while a white bishop behind the same pawn chain has great synergy, slipping through the gaps and covering the squares the pawns can't. Another element is your opponents' squares. If their pawns are set up defending a lot of dark squares, that leaves the white squares weaker and makes your own light square bishop better, or vice versa.

That opening trap isn't exactly the best trap. Qb6 and black is winning. Ater Ne5+ and Nxf7+, you still have your queen, and the pawn to threaten the knight protecting the bishop. Not to mention if the knight takes the rook, you can save your bishop by taking a pawn. And after Nxd5, just take the bishop, allow the fork, bring the king in, and your can either save your bishop or take both knights, and you're up material. EDIT: Oh, Eric goes over both lines in the video, lol.

13:55 what about moving back the bishop? They take the Q and you take back with the king, aren't you up a piece for a pawn and castling rights?

They don't have to take the queen immediately though. Ne5 discovered check and he has to block with the queen, which you then take for free and are up a piece
