I prefer slimmer necks so the 60s was a no brainer. Was just playing it earlier this evening and I couldn’t put it down. It may have the best neck, feel and overall playability of any of my guitars. Feels like it was made for my hands. Has a nice flame to it too. I love it. 🤘😎

I went with the 50s because I already head a Strat with the slimmer neck. Glad I did because the 50s neck made me a much better player as it really forced my to focus on not only Chords buy musical phrasing and progressing as well. The thinner strat neck makes me just want to shred. I've got the best of both worlds.

I’ve been lusting after a Standard LP for a very long time and the Standard 60’s since it came out. I’ve played it in stores and look at them every time I see them but just can’t afford it. It’s my “someday” dream guitar. No question. I only debate on the Iced Tea or Bourbon Burst. Sometimes one looks better than the other depending on the flame and paint. Both gorgeous though.

@@urgidover having played quite a few custom shops now/high end japanese custom built replica les pauls, Id say the Gibson standard 50s, which I owned for a bit as well, is a very premium feeling instrument. However, be prepared for it to be really heavy. The one I had was like 9.5 pounds at least and that seems to be the norm for these. The custom shops usually come around 8.5 pounds, which is ideal. In terms of sound, the standard 50s has a burstbucker pickup set, which imo sounds muddy, but still ok. If you play it side by side with a custom shop, you will definitely feel and hear a difference. Ive heard the standards, even when you change pickups and wires still sound a bit darker than custom shops because of the woods used (denser probably), but Im sure they can get close enough to the real thing. Overall, great playing and sounding guitars, which could be a bit better, but they are definitely not 3000 dollars worse than the custom shops

I have a LP special with the 50’s neck and a Standard 60’s. To me the difference in the neck thickness isn’t really all that noticeable. That could just be my examples though. Both feel great to me. The 60’s slim taper doesn’t feel as thin as some SG necks that I’ve played, and the 50’s is nowhere near the baseball bat necks I’ve heard about.

I’ve played a 20 yr old Sg (got new back in early/mid 2000’s, for a gift/1st brand name guitar, got very lucky. Has 60. Neck 490r/498t, the grain of wood and feel and sound is great! Love it). ; But seeing ive always loved LP’s & 20 yrs wirh my orginal axe, saw gibson went back to old school for new (2023 standards), i went for the 60s model burst, it looks great, feels good but different around heel lol), Big question is due to having spent a pretty $ on this brand new 60’s LP standard burst…im familar with 61 (or sny burstbuckers), i assumed the 490/498t was a very close model to the classic rock PAF tone. Which Bring me to FINAL question..main diffetences between BBucker 1 & 2 vs a paid of 61 humbucks? Want to love this axe but heard mixed reviews on 61 pups? Also i play thru a mashall & usually play with gain in standard tuning; fan of classic rock & tones). I do liie my SG tone, seems like the LPs neck is lowder while playing deep low notes/chords, only time i think bridge is louder is playing lead from G-high E? Curious thoughts on pAir of 61’s 2023 pups in an lp standard vs classic PAF sound

My SG has the pickups that Gibson puts in a lot of their Les Paul Customs (490r/498t) which give my SG a great rock tone, the 61 burstbuckers in the 60s Lp is rhe only thing in changing on my Lp , love the body/finish/neck, but i need to swap pups to make if the Lp ive always wanted. Go play one before buying..or at least a Les Paul, the neck is great, but obvs the higher up the neck , the less access since its a singe cut vs the SGs double cut..where u can almost play the 22nd note lol so thats the part id say to check if u like..cuz theres no changing the wooden profile lol but i can always swap pups

@@ericbitzer5247 i liked the sound of the stock 50s standard LP (burst bucker 1&2’s rather than 61 burstbuckers), but i dont like the wider neck profile, i cant change that so i figured i go with the most comfortable standard, and the 60s does have some small “upgraded” specs, such as AA figured maple top vs maple top on 50s, and 60s has the Grover Tuners (knock on wood, it stays in tune great, better then my SG with gibson tuners), but yah if you can go play a 50s standard and 60s standard..but if ur coming from an SG odds are 60s will feel more at home, takes time getting used to the less access up high cuz its a single cut..didnt wanna add a fat neck into the mix too. The stock pickups are ok…they have a very hot/vintage tone, little harsh , which is why im most likely putting in symour duncan slash 2.0 alnico 2 pro pickiups..they sound open and warm with a nice bite still, but def not selling the 61 burstbuckers (theyre unpotted and unbalanced, which sounds like a bad thing but thats how the original PAF’s were, but these are just a tad too hot for vintage tones (unless playing in a bad/mix, they would prob cut right thru nicely). This baby first hit the scene in 1952, thanks to some guitar nerd named Les Paul. He’s a guy who took one look at the state of guitars and said, “Nah, we can do better.” And thus, the Les Paul was born, and it’s been making rock legends out of mere mortals ever since. Think Jimmy Page, Slash, Duane Allman, and Joe Perry - they all signed their names in the holy book of rock with this six-stringed wonder! Now let’s talk design. The Les Paul has got this single cutaway thing going on, so it looks like it’s ready to punch you in the face with one hand tied behind its back. It’s got a solid feel, like you're holding the very essence of rock 'n' roll in your hands. We’re talking a mahogany body with a carved maple top - because why settle for just one kind of wood when you can have two? Add in a mahogany neck and a rosewood fretboard, and you’ve got yourself a guitar that’s as smooth as a single malt scotch. The pickups? Two humbuckers. You know what that means? No hum, no buzz, just pure, unadulterated power. These things churn out a thick, warm tone, like hot chocolate on a winter’s day, but with a shot of whiskey to make sure you’re paying attention. It’s the sound of a Les Paul, folks - rich and full, with lows that rumble in your gut and mids that make your spine tingle. And don’t forget the fixed bridge. This isn’t some flimsy tremolo setup; this bridge stays put. It’s solid, it’s stable, and it’s got sustain for days. You hit a note on this thing, and it’ll sing until you tell it to shut up. The tone? Oh, man, the tone! It’s like biting into a piece of dark chocolate - rich, full, and a little bit naughty. Those humbuckers give it a thick, powerful sound, perfect for everything from hard rock to heavy metal, to jazz, to blues. This guitar doesn't just play music; it makes statements. It tells the world, “I’m here, I’m loud, and you’re gonna listen!” So, there you have it - the Les Paul. A guitar that’s not just an instrument, but a lifestyle choice. It’s got soul, it’s got character, and it’s got enough power to knock you on your ass. And that, my friends, is what rock 'n' roll is all about! stratvslespaul.com

I have small hands, so after playing both I went with a '60s Standard in bourbon-burst. Just that little bit easier to play, although I have an '81 LP 2PU Artisan, and the Fifties neck profile on that feels great above the 7th fret. All that said, if tobaccoburst or HCSB (or even goldtop) had been offered on the '60s at the time , I'd have gone with one of those colors. Those nitpicks notwithstanding, my '60s is the best Les Paul out of the 5 I've owned and is rapidly becoming my #1!

However I went with the 50s and the BB1 & 2 in it, as you mention, sound amazing in my standard 50s. I love them... I don't know if Gibson modified something or the set I had before (you know they are all wound a little differently to emulate the 50s winding) just were meh. I have a 2017 Standard HP with the slim asymmetrical neck, it's a 4A top and amazing but almost too thin. For long gigs, unless it's more of a shred fest, the 50s is very comfortable. Great review, hoping you guys get to 50K soon, keep up the great work!

Sounds exactly like the pickups sitting too close to the strings. Lower them down. For some reason manufacturers usualy default the pickups higher than nececary and you lose dynamics and clarity.

Both looked and sounded excellent, But to my ear when you had it on the fuzz , it seemed like you had to push the 50s a lil harder to get the tone you were looking for, whereas the 60s seemed to fit right in crisp n clean.. And just seemed to have a lil more bite imo. Great reaction.

Personally I prefer the thinner neck as hand size plays a big role in how well you play based on how fast your hands move around the neck. Both of these guitars are an affordable way to own and play a Les Paul! Thanks for show casing these awesome guitars!

Did Gibson make a “61” Les Paul. Standard? I think they had already moved to the SG body style. Interesting they would use a “61” pickup in a guitar that wasn’t made in “61”.

Good video great assessment, caught my eye cause i thought Gibson might of changed something (glad they haven't)! I actually bought a 2019 50's standard tobacco burst back in early 2020, according to my serial number i have a 1st batch Wednesday guitar! I absolutely LOVE my Les Paul and i honestly think Gibson is making there best guitars since the 50's! Maybe i'll use your purchase link to get the 60's or p90.

The 50s looked and sounded better but at the end of the day it does come down to neck profile. I have a 50's with P-90s and a 2000s 60's with humbuckers and the 60's neck is just more comfortable to me despite the 50's being my dream guitar in look and sound.

I recently got a Les Paul Standard '50s from zZounds. It's a Gibson Exclusive with an AAA top in bourbon burst. I prefer the '50s neck, and bourbon burst is my favorite finish on the Standards, so I got the best of both worlds. As far as the pickups go, I'm eventully going to put some Seymour Duncan Slash pickups in it.

Speaking of Guitar Help, looking to Swap my 61 BB’s from my Gibson Les Paul 60’s standard (only few months old). The 61 BBs sound very tinny to my ears, so i ordered Symour Duncan Slash 2.0 Alnico II pro set of pickups to replace my LP’s stock 61 Burstbuckers. Anyone have any input as to if i made a good choice or if theyres a better option for a good big open/warm/full sounding pickup set with still a good amount of compression and bite (they seen like they have a nice bitey bridge but not as bright and tinny as my 61 burstbuckers, and that creamy warm neck tone; i believe the only difference with the original SD slash pups and the newer 2.0’s is that they’re a little hotter..but i read they have same tone qualities & bascially the same, just wee bit louder *i figured that can never be a bad thing since i love classic rock from late 60’s to mid 80’s and mostly playing with gain/overdrive and reverb lol). Just trying to make my LP sound great, keeping the stock 61 BB’s incase i ever wanna pop them back in, but from youtube demos, these SD slash 2.0 set sounded very much like my ideal “les paul” sound. I already i have the high/cut thru more sharp tone with my Gibson SG (490r/498t) which sounds great in that guitar and does the AC/DC to even some Sabbath tones very well. Looking for a little different, more “full/open” sound out of my LP. Not sure if this matters but my LP is new so no push/pull non-sense and no weight relief (got lucky with an 8.5 lb solid body), and i usually play thru a Marshall DSL 20c or Boss Katana MKII 100w. Any input would be great before i put these new pups in.

I love the 50s gold tops and the 60s triburst, and guitar center has a lemon burst 60s that’s very nice too…. But if you want a 50s guitar that’s a little hotter than try the slash stuff, or even the Adam Jones one of you can find one…. Also don’t forget about the classic it’s a super versatile guitar 🎸 actually I think the classic is best for a newer guitar player trying to decide if they want to invest everything into playing 😂 plus it’s like putting money in the bank because they hold their value
