I bought a Model 1 4 months ago. Absolutely love it!! I can splice and layer 4 tracks at one time and then adjust the frequency’s, tone etc… It’s a amazing and that’s before I would add another 2 fx channels if I wanted

Hello, beatiful video! i have a Model 1.4, i have a question about delay boss connections. what cables did you use because it has a mono input? Sounds great! I wanted to use it in Send/return on an aux, both for my dawless set and for when I DJ Set, but I read about connectivity problems... thanks by Swiss
@Manmademadman
@Manmademadman Жыл бұрын
It's a good question. I tried lots of cables, and one pair of TRS did NOT work with the Boss, but another pair of TRS did work. I ended up using TS cables for this demo. As for wiring of Sends/Returns; sends can of course be mono or stereo (so you could send 4 total mono sends out to different devices), but returns must ONLY be stereo (as in two cables) because the FX will only sound on one side if you plug either cable in. Hope this helps?

I’ve had a lot of trouble with my TASCAM 25 Pin cable…. It’s doesnt fit the DSUB 1 properly…. My cable is an 80 dollar cable from Guitar Center. Maybe that’s the issue… :/. Till then Ill buy another 4 sets of RCA to 1/4 and go that route until I get a proper TASCAM cable working with my Model 1…

Thanks for the overview! In this setup I would have put the delay return on it's own channel, so you could sculpt it more or even control the Feedback with the mixer send. What is this stand the Mixer 1 is on, is it stable enough or wiggly?
@el_dani
@el_dani 6 ай бұрын
ah you said it's an Apache A1, I don't find this particular model, what inch size is it? The Mixer 1 is kind of special in size, as it's quite deep. So is the 12'' model stable enough, does it just fix by weight?
@Manmademadman
@Manmademadman 6 ай бұрын
@@el_dani Looks like the Apache A1 has been replaced with the Warthog. I assume same build, minus the triangular foot. This stand DEFINES "built like a tank" because i could stand on it, and I have accidentally. It's overbuilt and will not rock or wiggle at all. Big fan of his gear!

Appreciate the feedback... I have found over the years that delay into its own channel isn't necessary if there's a delay return like on the MODEL1. Why? Because the OTO has a feedback knob and programmable filtering built in, but more importantly because it takes up a precious stereo channel. Most other delays these days have feedback filtering too. The MODEL1 has a "lowcut on 1/2" button which does the additional job. In my studio, I have all effects going to a separate bus (Speck Xtramix CXI) so that they can be recorded/tweaked on their own in the DAW. Live (and in the heat of the moment) you can easily get lost and have runaway delays/reverbs and having one place to look works best for me.
@el_dani
@el_dani 6 ай бұрын
@@Manmademadman that‘s true. Only thing I will miss from my actual bigger mixer and what you can‘t do with this solution: send the delay return channel to another aux for example to put Reverb on the delay signal. I‘ll have all the inputs on a patchbay anyway, so if I‘m in Dub mood I can adjust my routing.

They need to get the price down on the 4 channel to $1499, they went from $2299 to $1799 just for now. This thing is killer and for those doing eurorack you better off buying this for what you paying for mixer in eurorack which have so much noise and average sound quality. You can also use it as summing mixer.
@Manmademadman
@Manmademadman Жыл бұрын
Yup, I saw that! And the MODEL1 is down to $2499! I agree, this is an unbeatable mixer, and I will use it for live shows because it's so hands-on.

How does this compare to the V10 pros and cons?
@Manmademadman
@Manmademadman 11 ай бұрын
I don't own or use a V10, but looking at the two of them the major difference is the Model1 is all analog and doesn't have effects but adds two effects sends/returns. There is no USB or digital functionality on the Model1. The Model1 has "drive"-- which I explore in this video-- while the V10 has Comp. I don't know how the V10 overloads/distorts, but hopefully I showed that with dynamic instrument level devices here in this video.

For the love of god dont go over +3. first sign of an amiture DJ
@Manmademadman
@Manmademadman 11 ай бұрын
With most mixers, yes. But the MODEL1 (and MODEL1.4) have an unprecedented +28db of headroom and were specifically designed for this, hence my video. From the manual "Although MODEL 1 has a considerable 28dB of headroom and is unlikely to suffer from clipping due to high signal levels, it is recommended to keep the average signal level between 0 and +6. Occasional peaks to +9 is acceptable but operation with the PK LED ON is best avoided due to the possibility of damaging any connected PA systems or clipping soundcards, record devices etc. Play into the red and orange but avoid operating in the white!"
@potsandjacks
@potsandjacks 11 ай бұрын
@@Manmademadman You just quoted my point precisely.. There is no benefit to going over +3 so why even get close to +9. A +3 ever so ofter and a +6 a few times over a few hours and everything will be 100% golden. Additionally ALL big PA systems will have limiters that will be there to protect their speakers, when you trigger the limiter you'll get a dip in sound making it distort and become quieter, which defeats the point to pushing up the gain. Just keep it under +3 and let your sound guy do his job he will thank you and you'll have a much better quality and louder performance in the end. Any pro sound guy will tell you this same thing,
@potsandjacks
@potsandjacks 11 ай бұрын
@@Manmademadman The +3 gain rule has nothing to do with the internal headroom of the mixer and everything to do with the output coming out of the main out to your PA limiters. You never want to trigger a PA limiter. You can insure this by keeping it under +3. Its best to always keep this in mind even when using it just to practice your gain staging. If you don't you wont be ready to play on big systems.

@@potsandjacks Note that there's no Master Output Fader! Under the Master Section there are two recessed trim knobs, one for XLR outputs and one for 1/4". These are what you trim when sending (presumably during sound check.) I've played at large clubs (two with Funktion-One sound systems) with dance music like this and hitting peak with the MODEL1. Both sound engineers later commented that this was the best sounding mixer they'd ever heard, and what was it called again? That is the purpose of this all-analog mixer: set and forget and work on crafting your sound. And if you don't sound good, it's not the mixers fault! Important to note: most professional club sound systems are playing level matched and likely MASTERED dance music through Pioneer gear (the industry standard) and this demonstration is live/improv _barely_ engineered music (if you can even call it that!) from instruments made to make dance music all mixed through the MODEL1, which can handle the dynamics and wildly varied levels. That said, I still stay away from the white!

Anyway it was an akward curve never have i experience such a weird fader curve. And i own a xonev6 Xone 62 Xone 92 And now a Xone 96 And none have that awfull curve thank god. I might buy one and modify it rotary. Ill see The per channel filter was awesome And Master filter was great awesome way to mix.
