Not sure of The rules were updated but at start of the game for sure you could “buy” the Towncenter or Mountains (stated clear by the rules)

I know it doesn't really matter Carson City was the capital of Nevada and it was settled around 1860 and not too long after the state became Nevada there's only a handful of other mining towns that existed before

8.0 at BGG is something i really dont' agree with. I would say that the basic version of this game was ok for what it is, a fairly "chaotic game" that can be fun when played a couple of times, but definitively not the kind of game you will try to play again and again for testing new strategies. So, 35 - 40 euros for the basic game yeah, why not.. 75 for some expansions almost none will care about and a couple useless wooden pieces ? no way...
