I was thinking about commenting the same thing! How many takes did this take? Did you have multiple cameras? Was this all scripted? How do you never say "Um" to make any mistakes? I'm extremely impressed with the hard work that must have been put in to make such a high quality video THAT'S OVER AN HOUR LONG 🤯 BRAVO!

This video is incredible. I've been trying to understand the rules of Scythe for awhile now because I knew that in there somewhere was a game for me. This video finally helped me crack the code. It looks like a big, heavy game but really it's not too bad. You have limited actions, the combat is simplistic, and the end game scoring seems pretty straightforward. In the end, this was enough to convince me to pick up a copy of the game and subscribe to the channel. Thanks!

When you build the Mill and uncover the Mill hex on your action board, it actually becomes an extra territory for production. So if you had two normal production hexes uncovered and the Mill, you can produce on all *three*. I noticed an occasion that you used the mill hex as one of your regular allotted production spots.
@JonGetsGames8 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, that makes the mill far better than I'd realized! My interpretation was that the mill always produces 1 resource of it's region regardless of whether that region was selected for producting. Having the mill make that region an auto produce for it and all other workers on it makes sense and make the building far better than I'd played. Thanks for the clarification :)

Wow. This is the best walkthrough I’ve ever seen. Nice job, man, especially in your attention to detail. It’s nigh-on impossible for some of us to catch every play mistake we make in even a simple game, but your commitment to getting it right is admirable, especially with all the ingredients of the Scythe point salad. I was on the fence on this game, but this just made it a buy. Cheers and thanks.

this game does my head in for some reason. something about the theme and graphics that's a bit too edgy/harsh, not sure why
@danmanning66647 жыл бұрын
I think it's the graphics/pictures. It seems like there is almost too much going on with the art, but if you were to strip away most of it, you'd see a pretty easy game to play. Unfortunately, the catch 22 is the art provides the theme and that is huge in this game.

Not sure if it was mentioned in the comments already. At 58:48 you do an upgrade action for red. and claim you get a coin for the Enlist power. You should have increased combat power by 1. The free coin is if you build a mech. You do get a coin with the upgrade (as you showed in the video)

Extremely well done video tutorial and run-through, one of the best I've seen for any game. Is it safe to say that I will like Scythe if I enjoy Kemet? Thanks, and great job.
@JonGetsGames8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly I don't think it's safe to say that liking Scythe is correlated to Kemet. Kemet is all about getting powerful fast, swiftly aggressing opponents, and getting technologies that synergize with each other and your position. Scythe has a slower pace and the actually fighting is rare but super important. It's much more about posturing and intimidation vs actual fighting. It's very possible to enjoy both games, but I don't think they feel much alike at all.
@TheCliffsideBunker8 жыл бұрын
That's actually good for us, we like Kemet a lot, and if we end up playing Scythe just as much... than at least we would be getting 2 totally different gaming experiences. Thanks for the reply.
@TheGunslinger0198 жыл бұрын
If you want a Kemet like experience then you have to get Inis! Is from Metagot the same company of Kemet's and Cyclade's and is an amazing area control game driven by card play. Scythe is more of a resource management euro game but with great theme and combat.

Produce action 22:30 "on 2 hexes" was wrong. The hex with the mill is an extra hex. so he could produce on that mountain also (hex1 village, hex2 mountain, hex3 tunnel with mill), same at 35:13

Update: good news is my first game after reorganizing the components and setting up i felt like i knew exactly what to do. It helped that i picked white too, and i swear to anything i got the same player mat you did as well by random which i only just realized when commenting on this. So your video was inatrumental. HOWEVER i was playing solo and you didn't prepare me for my greatest adversary: the automa. It is a fantastic system and I am a solo gamer mostly so i bought the game for solo, but it is very hard to control without constantly looking up symbols in the manual. Im sure eventually i will play against automa like its second nature, but right now my first game has gone: "oh its my turn, ok cool that was a sweet turn"- 20 seconds. Then i pass to automa, draw a card, and go "ok lemme consult the manual....ok" and its about maybe a minute. I'm still having fun though and I'm sure i will memorize the icons eventually

The hex where the mill is built always produces. You don't need to select it when producing. After the mill has been built you will produce on 3 (or 4 with the upgrade) hexes.

@CascadeHush5 жыл бұрын
As a suggestion, for whites first turn in this case, I would have concentrated on the wood, not the grain. That faction wants to move more than most (to make use of your event card ability). By picking wood, you can build the mine first, which opens up move possibilities and also makes the move space more useful. You can also start to use the build action for the coin it gives you - 2 wood for a coin (long term, after upgrades) is not the best rate, but it's basically extra points for something you probably should be doing a lot anyway. Even so, it's still a better option than 4 grain for an enlistment, it is going to be ages before that starts paying off, but your buildings can start benefiting you after about 4 turns.
@CascadeHush5 жыл бұрын
Also, having 4 workers (yellow, second turn) is not ideal. You always want an odd number because the cost of production only kicks in every second worker (you'll be paying the cost for 5 workers even if you only have 4). As yellow, I would always produce, trade and produce. 3 turns and you have 5 workers (the ideal amount) and 2 grain (plus whatever you traded for, usually more grain so you can get your first enlistment). As you've done it, you have just the 4 workers after 2 turns, but now you have to move, which means after 3 turns you have one less worker and 2 less grain that what I believe to be optimal in most circumstances.
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын
@@CascadeHush Good strategic notes, thanks. My goal with these videos is to show the game played as correctly as possible, and also as competitively as possible. That being said I have usually played the game 0-3 times before filming so I am never an expert player once the camera starts rolling and this means I do often end up making not the smartest strategic moves.
