'Played,' a slick, cat-and-mouse drama, follows an elite undercover police unit as they infiltrate an always changing maze of criminal worlds. Known as the Covert Investigations Unit (CIU), these cops become experts at high-stakes sting operations in the form of nerve-wracking confidence games they call “plays." One slip could bring a domino effect of danger crashing down on the entire team, so they depend on their charm and humor as well as razor-sharp skills to ensure every arrest. Tensions fly with the officers on and off duty, and, as the show's title suggests, even the best players are themselves never far from being played.
Vincent Walsh leads the cast ('The Fall,' 'Deception') along with formidable co-stars Chandra West ('Castle,' 'The Gates'), Lisa Marcos ('Hemlock Grove,' 'CSI: Miami'), Dwain Murphy ('Nikita,' 'The Mentalist'), Agam Darshi ('Arrow,' 'Sanctuary'), and Adam Butcher ('Combat Hospital,' 'Falling Skies'). The ensemble's chemistry lights up each episode, as you witness them carry out "plays" in various life-and-death situations. Wearing wires, coaxing confessions and taking on all kinds of false-identities, the smooth-talking, quick-acting, sharp-as-nails team makes every moment riveting and human. The tense relationships that form among the characters contrast with the thrilling exploits of officers who must go off the grid to bring down criminals without a safety net.
