Player housing has to be publicly visible or it might as well not exist. Garrisons sucked to me because it was just one house that everybody had... Same location.... Being able to visit community cities would be what I want. Not just some phased gimmick.

There’s been very few games to do player housing correctly. If they don’t put some useful items in there, make it not instanced and visible to other players, or make them limited then it will fail. It only needs 1 of those 3 things to make it relevant.

I actually liked the Garrison when it came out in WoD, it was something new at the time that hadn't been tried before in the game. But I've also personally been a fan of RTS games where you build and place buildings to your liking

You can rent a home for the low low price of 9.999,99 dollars in your in-game store. It'll be an annual payment. You'll also need to complete daily quests to upkeep your home, otherwise the rent will go up.

The extra features does not really matter (no matter how well they are done) if core features just does not work - like 15+ minutes queue for solo shuffle that will have 6x 1 minute games so you basically wait 3 times longer than you play... But at least PvE players have something to look forward to, good for them :D.

The garrisons didn't fail lmao. Even Blizzard called the bluff of those who said that back in the day and it was hilarious because they all went silent. Those who hated the garrisons tried telling Blizzard nobody used them but Blizzard fired back and said according to the data not only are most using them but even those who are complaining the most are using the hell out of the garrisons. Certain people within the game think that certain features will destroy the game and threaten to quit because they don't like them. I will never understand why these types of people think they matter when in reality they don't.

I play both, in my head classic is an MMORPG. You meet the odd RPer, you level slowly and need help for a lot of stuff, gold and gear can be few and far between, very few people selling gold or services, the world feels vast because travel can be tedious and end game content is semi noob friendly. In retail it feels more like maybe a MOBA or like call of duty rpg. You absolutely fly to max level which when the game is all about endgame content it’s probably a good thing, loot is easy to come by and so is gold so the real challenge is end game content, raiding and pvp are at a muuuuuuch higher level and feel more satisfying to complete, combat in general feels way nicer and it’s also easier to jump on play for an hour and jump off. Not much in the way of spontaneous community fun and chat is full of gold and raid spot sellers. They both have their upsides and downsides they’re just very different games
