Bumped into a nasty bug that caused a lot of time sink related to player loaded areas. This video explains the bug and sheds some light into combating the issues around it.

I love your ms paint diagrams

Good to know the thing about the 8 block movement too! I'd noticed this when experimenting with using player loading for lightning rng, but could never figure out the cause.

This makes a lot of sense given the way the code is designed. Mojang uses finite element coordinate systems, not finite volume coordinate systems. I think if they switched to a coordinate system that was block-centered, indexing bugs like these would be fixed. It would also be more intuitive for players, though, I expect iron farm creaters to be thrown off by a change like this.

That's a pretty annoying bug. Is there a report for it?

Not sure honestly. Could ask and add to the description.

Should it round -0.9 to -1 instead? From maths point of view it would certainly be "better", but I don't think it would get any less misleading.

@@Xcom6000 i would make a report. worst case, it gets marked as a duplicate. You can then go link to the original that you duplicated without knowing it

Would love to vote it. This kind of bugs can make so many headaches...

u was in 1.12 version seems like. does this bug exist and tested in 1.13.2 as well (and in latest 1.14 snapshots)?

Thanks for discovering and tell the public about this bug. Am I right this means that we need separate machine for the bedrock breaking in the positive region and negative region and the version now can not cross the x=0 and z=0? So will we probably have some kind of fix with the carpet mod or better to report this to Mojang and leave this to them because this kind of bug are linked to the source of the code. To be honest, I really appreciate for the hard work of you guys to design the whole machine and show to someone like me who want to clean the bedrock but do not have enough knowledge about all the parts of the machine. If some day we can have a modified version for the negative regions, that will be a great help. Also I am curious that whether this kind of bug will affect the old version v2 in which we use the minecart to move all long away from the machine every time. Thanks for the video and looking forward to seeing the V4 someday.

Luckily Grum saw the bug and patched in for 14 so its fixed in the upcoming versions. Not sure if it needs a carpet patch, guess could add. As for the bedrock breakers running full vanilla then yes, they are all influenced by this bug when crossing the axes. Being on the wrong side results an offset that can mess with block precise machines. It's however easy to take into account for.

I wonder if this is related to the bug that makes iron farm centers offset in the negative coordinates or a separate instance of the same type of problem? Could we have a bug report link?

if you press left arrow every second or so, you hear something like "glow"

this is a pervasive problem. I also see this with the percent operator in java, where people use it as a modulus when it is actually a remainder.

wow , i also know these , but i though i this is some special property of EPC instead of bug , here is what happened i walk away from my target chunk , sometimes right before i cross the chunk border EPC detector powered off (i move in -z direction ) and i have to walk pass the middle chunk to load my target chunk again (i don't know it is decide by moving , i just think there are some sort of tiny chunk inside one chunk to process entity)
