I think Interplay's vision for Fallout feels better to me because it was always evolving. The difference in the world from FO1 to FO2 and then to FO:NV was huge. New factions didn't just exist to make new types of enemies to fight, but they all had their own spheres of influence and histories that you could learn about to see how humanity was slowly trying to reclaim the world they lost to the apocalypse. Bethesda, as fun as their FO games are to play, feels like they want to keep things stagnant so they can market the traditionally "Fallout" factions and ideas like BoS, Enclave, Vault-Tec, Super Mutants, etc. I mean they even had Radscorpions in DC and Boston, areas where Scorpions do not live IRL, but they're iconic to the series so throw 'em in there. Then the TV series (spoilers) literally goes and nukes Shady Sands off-screen so they don't have to be bothered developing them further and can regress back to focusing mainly on Vault-Tec. This doesn't make their Fallout games bad by any stretch, imo it just makes them classic Bethesda "inch deep and mile wide"
@averagemug3 ай бұрын
Interplay was planning on destroying Shady Sands before Bethesda had the series. The reason why is to keep continuing the Fallout story without making it a completely different game by the end, even Black Isle understood that civilization couldn't progress to far in the games.
@LivelyParadox3 ай бұрын
@@averagemug planning on maybe, but would they have actually done it by the time the story was actually made? We'll never know, so I can only go by what we actually got. Also I imagine, given what we got with NV, they would've given us a lot more than it just being nuked off-screen with a little chalk board timeline and would've instead seen it collapse over time as it overexpanded to the point of being unsustainable (as was hinted at in NV), but again we'll never know so I judge by what we have not what we may have gotten if they didn't go bankrupt
@averagemug3 ай бұрын
@@LivelyParadox So you know nothing but still say that Bethesda made a mistake Black Isle and Obsidian never would?
@LivelyParadox3 ай бұрын
@@averagemug I actually didn't say Black Isle "never would." I said "I imagine" and "we'll never know." Those literally mean that I am making an educated guess on something that we will never know one way or the other for sure. So I am judging based on what we got, not based on hypotheticals of what may or may not have happened had Black Isle or Obsidian gotten more time with the IP. If Black Isle or Obsidian went on to do what Bethesda did it would still be bad, but there is no point in judging a hypothetical that is no longer possible instead of the actual content we got

Fallout 4 is a solid game because of the modding community. It took me forever to finish the game. That isn't because it was hard, it was because it was boring. However, if you ignore the story, play on survival, and download a bunch of mods, it's a good game. Of course, this is coming from a guy who played the original at release. Bethesda's Fallout games aren't terrible, they just aren't real Fallout games, with the exception of New Vegas. That's just one man's opinion.

He forgot to mention that Fallout New Vegas was ment to be a sequel. There was missions in Van Burens design docs about a impeding war between the NCR and Brotherhood, even one about having the player try to negotiate peace between the NCR Governor of Hoover Dam and Brotherhood of Steel, and would've lead to a possible sequel involving NCR vs BOS focus, either as Tactics 2 or a main title. A majority of characters in New Vegas were planned for Van Buren aswell, being reused in the game as established characters, such as Arcane Gannon. Some other ones like The Crimson Caravan, even The Think Tank was also planned for it. Obsidian took the idea since a majority of the writers were from Interplay and rewrote it for New Vegas.

refreshing opinion on fallout 4. Not my favorite after playing the others, but it was my first and an incredibly influential game for teenage me. The biggest influence its had on me is my music taste, Fallout 4 introduced me to my one of my favorite artists and blues as a music genre, all from one stupid song about grandma playing the numbers. I also dont think fallout has changed that much in my opinion, its always been a janky universe full of weird things. You cannot tell me with a straight face that a bunch of purple robed priests that worship a mutated master to make big shrek looking dudes or running into a car dealer trying to sell off rusty wrecks to you in the middle of the Californian desert isn't absurd. Its always been weird, its not meant to be taken so seriously.
