@TravaillesDuChanson we're in speculation territory now, we don't know how their relationship would've turned out if zack had lived(although in maiden aerith tells zack a guy like him couldnt be a proper lover because his been with to many girls and she prefer someone like cloud). What we do know is that in rebirth an all powerful aerith could've spent her last moments with anyone but it was cloud she chose to spend those last moments with, she literally pulled this man from another timeline to spend one last moment with him. Evens at the battle with sepiroth aerith could've went to zack to help him out she obviously does still help zack but she chose to physically go to cloud to help him. Also time doesn't matter in ff games tidus and Yuna knew other for the same amount of time as cloud and aerith same for squall and rinoa its quite common in ff games.

For me it’s simple if anything in the game is OPTIONAL then it’s not canon. When something isn’t as in Cloud kisses one and says he’s in love with them and that’s the only end then THAT is canon. Knowing the lore of FF7 it seems to me like it’s always been Cloud and Tifa but I won’t say it’s canon because it isn’t at least right now. There is a third game coming out anything can happen so. Also for Zack here I dont believe he saved Cloud for only Aerith’ sake he’s closer to Cloud too. Maybe in his mind Cloud wouldn’t have wanted the cure but saving Biggs and everyone would’ve been what he wanted here.

Zack is very heroic. He literally was thinking about who he should save at the end when he was sitting at the church entrance. He literally met Biggs 10 seconds ago and already wonders which path he should take

Remember Zack and Cloud last moments together awake was in niebleheim, prior to that Zack never introduced Cloud to Aerith nor did he even mention her name. So he’s prolly wondering how could Aerith developed feelings for Cloud when in his memory they’ve never met.
