I got to play both courses at Baltusrol decades ago. A member in my foursome said he would buy me a shirt from the pro shop - if I was able to not three-putt any of the first THREE holes. On the first hole I had a good 35 footer uphill and it looked like it might break a foot to the left. My caddy strongly advised that I play 3 feet of LEFT-TO-RIGHT break. I earned that shirt and was humbled with how difficult the course and the greens were - and I was a former collegiate player and still a 5 handicapper at the time. A very different world. In my prime, even as a scratch golfer, I doubt that I could EVER break 80 on the men's course from the championship tees. Placement was so subtly critical. I can't wait to watch the women's PGA championship.

Beautiful course and nice integration with the landscape features. You wouldn't get to play there today unless you have a rich friend who's a member. 😀The Lower Course has been renovated at least once since the time you played it, I guess, but it's interesting to hear of your experience. Judging from the photos, some of those bunker complexes look very daunting as you face up to them, especially for the approach shots. The greens must be very nuanced, too, since they look like they've been run over with an iron.. This week's tournament is going to be a serious test of both lateral and length accuracy.
