One reason why people hate vegemite is when they first try it, there is usually too much vegemite on the bread. The pieces of vegemite toast they tried had way too much spread over it as if it was jam. There should only be a small amount spread over melted butter/margarine.

Why do people deliberately put a pile of Vegemite on a piece of bread. 2 ways to eat Vegemite one on totally fresh bread or the other toast, with butter and only a smear (very thin layer) of Vegemite that you can see through.

I have an Australian co-worker who brought in some Vegemite for everyone to try. She brought the bread, butter and instructions to toast the bread, apply butter and then a thin, even application of the Vegemite. I followed the instructions and it wasn’t bad at all.

@@ViaticalTree Yep good on her. Vegemite is like a perfume, to much and your over powering, just a light spray and you are interesting. plus it will restore lost salts. In Australia it is hot and dry in summer months and you lose a lot of salt (sweating) it has a good amount of vitamin B and that helps with mode swings and stress.

No wonder they hate it so much, there's too much purposely put on to get a reaction from the players. Very few Aussies ever put that much on, the trick is to just scrape a bit here and there. You don't put it on like you would Nutella. You'd really want them to actually like it but by making them eat an overload of it, of course they will never go near it again. But then again, I was surprised that Sascha actually liked it but he's a champion anyway.

I have to defend vegemite here, haha. Many people who do eat it actually only use a very small amount because it's very salty and overpowering. If you put it on toast as thick as nutella, that will be disgusting. It's like saying salt tastes bad: it's only bad if you use too much.
