AD should have won EASILY and even Gobert should have gotten it over him, but they didn't want to give Gobert b2b2b DPOYs. Lastly, the year Giannis won DPOY was the last year he actually was a TRULY elite defender. He hasn't been the same defender since and is evidently living off that reputation despite having regressed noticeably. Hence, overrated.

Giannis creates shot at the rim for himself in the mid post constantly. He backs defenders down, or drives around/through them to the hoop. His "restricted area range" is well past the literal restricted area. He can lay the ball up or dunk it past the free throw line area. He's not just literally in the restricted area when he creates these shots, because of his height, length, athleticism etc. He also hits plenty of hookshots and push shots right at the edge of the restricted area off of spins or backing guys down when he posts them up. He's actually just underrated as a scorer because he's constantly creating those restricted area baskets for himself. Not to mention there are games when Giannis gets hot from the midrange, and starts knocking those shots down at a great clip.

Giannis isn’t gonna be something he’s not. Same as any other player, KD, Steph, Bron etc. your game is your game. Giannis’ game is attacking the paint, he’s best at it and can’t be stopped practically. He’s never gonna be amazing in other areas because that’s not his game, and he doesn’t need to be. With Giannis you know he’s goin to the paint and he still gets there, he’s had years where he’s shot above 40% from midrange on a decent amount of attempts which would put him in elite company. But, there are years where he just plays to his strengths and attacks the paint over and over.

People overvalue his regular season scoring because defenses are not the same execution wise and it’s much easier to get in transition. In the playoffs he’s nowhere near the same player. His efficiency is way down, offers little portability, over relies on transition, not outside jumper, horrible ft shooter, offensive foul machine. Don’t get me wrong he’s still a great scorer but clearly a level below guys like Luka, Jokic, Embiid, SGA
