Okay but that’s not the point. The point is that offense isn’t the end all be all either, considering there’s not many score first only guys who win very much either. Most of the best scorers that qualify as superstars won because they were also solid defenders and they had teams built around them. But most of the great scorers never won. There’s plenty of elite scorers, but how many true defensive anchors on the level of Duncan, Kg, Hakeem, Robinson, and Russell are there that have championship level impact through defensive presence? Next to none. What low is saying is that the fact that no other great players defense can compare to the impact of someone like Duncan’s defense; that being defense that could consistently lead teams to championship level sucess; that’s a testimant to how impactful defense can truly be. At its best with superstar level defensive talent, defense is every bit as impactful as offense. And history has proven that. Duncan’s spurs weren’t always some offensive juggernauts. Those 2000s squads relied HEAVILY on Duncan’s defense and gritty play to win ALOT of tough grind it out games. And they did that for 2 decades. The pistons with Ben Wallace did the same. Bill Walton was pretty much Duncan before Duncan with his defensive impact. Bill Russell obviously is the pinnacle. The importance of defense to these current warriors that look terrible without draymond playing elite D should tell us that. There is no great teams that have won without atleast being a league average defender. There is a decent amount teams u can name off top that ran off elite defense and average offense. And ALL of them were anchored by the types of defensive talents low is referring to.. when the defense is as impactful as Tim Duncan’s was it ABSOLUTELY is comparable to the impact of an offensive player. In most cases u take the offense. But that’s not the case when it comes to the the best of the best defensive bigmen.

@@TheIcemanthomas for one, I clearly stated above that I disagreed with his dismissal of Defense . Yes , you basically wrote all that to say defense wins championship which I am not disputing. However, where I do see where he was coming from was the notion that they are not equal because they just aren’t. You don’t build teams around a defensive cornerstone player ( aside from Russell). You do so with a superstar offensive talent first and if they develop into a 2 way player then they have a great chance at being one of the best players of all time. All the players you mentioned are 2 way players . Yes they are bigs which allows them to anchor larger loads of the defense. But they are all 2 way players. Jordan was a 2 way player, kobe the same , Lebron in his prime, Wade in his prime etc. but let’s not act like there aren’t championships won by great teams with superstars that aren’t known to have hall of fame level defense. Magic and Curry are not known to be such yet they still lead their teams to be a dynasty as well because they had complimentary great defenders around them. I think we can agree that the 2 way player has much more value than the simply defensive superstar because most defensive superstars barely scratch the hall of fame. While Duncan was probably a top 3 defender of all time, he was also a go to guy offensively. Nobody thinks of Duncan as a Ben Wallace type player

Bill Russell is the only player that was never the best player on his team offensively 🫴 while others player has the pressure of putting the points on the board. When Kobe Bryant was the second option. It a problem or Shaq carried him. It is a big difference when you are the best player offensively.
