Especially if you're opponent has handles .you have to lock in on his tendencies! Does he cross over left to right or right to left ? Do you time him and pick his pocket ? it's physically more straining on your hips and ligaments because you are constantly moving laterally where as with help defense you have a teammate that helps out on your weak side and you can trap it takes less effort stop it .

I think a role player is a guy that’s is in the team to generally perform 2 or 3 tasks. Javale McGee is a role player that is asked to block, rebound and catch lobs. Klay is a role player that is asked to defend, shoot and run into run to upset the defense. Even though Klay is a lot better than KAT, kat is not a role player. He is not asked to perform specific tasks , he is asked to do all that he can to win.

Low loves throwing our random scenarios but only pointing out half the picture m. Kareem made a whole other finals after that first chip in Milwaukee. He lost to the Celtics in the finals. He didn’t just lose all the years before he got magic. That’s not comparable to Durants situation whatsoever. Durant had talent around him win or lose. Kareem had talent when he came in, then that talent was gone and he had to carry and nearly won a. Chip ON HIS OWN. But then that talent dissipated even more and Kareem was on a terrible team with no second star, and he led his team in all 5 major stats trying to drag them to the playoffs. Not to mention he had one Injury riddled season, one season that was weird due to Milwaukee changing from the western conference to the eastern conference, and the nba/aba merger happened smack dead on the middle of the decade. Then he gets traded to LA which gutted the roster. It wasn’t that he absolutely needed a top 20 guard to win. It was that he needed some good talent around him to be in position to win. It just so happened to be two guys that were of that caliber. But had it been Dennis Johnson and some good role players or something, I doubt the results would be much different. Kareem at a still level with at least one allstar caliber guard and some good role players would garner atleast one ring. But tickets point was that durant couldn’t get it done with as much talent if not MORE than Kareem had up until he got magic and worthy. He didn’t go chasing rings in LA, he went there to be in a better environment and the talent came to him naturally. He didn’t collude with anyone. He didn’t run from anyone. He didn’t whine and complain about anything. He didn’t go join the teams that beat him. He went to a rebuilding team. Tried his best to keep them somewhat competitive with little to no real support, lucked up by winning magic in a damn coin toss for the first pick, and they build a team around those two and won. Kd didn’t have to endure any real hardship or down years besides the few injury riddled ones and his early first few seasons in Seattle. He had the team built for him, he had the talent next to him, he failed to get it done and then jumped ship to the rival. Does that change how great he is? No. Does that mean he is as low as ticket put him all time? Not at all. He’s definitely top 20 all time imo. I don’t agree with either of them. I think it’s somewhere in the middle. With that being said, low is wrong. Kareems situations and kds are completely different. I’d say Kds situation is closer to if barkely had won a ring with Houston or if dirk jumped ship in 07 after losing to Miami and went over there to team with shaq and d wade.

i think y’all were misunderstanding Pierre. The name role player doesn’t mean the quality of the player. It’s literally the role the player. I think instead of “superstars and role players” its more like “creators and finishers”. Creators being people like LeBron and Steph who are the focal point of the offense, and finishers like Dwade and KD who benefit off of that focal player. You can be an all star caliber player, mvp caliber finisher but if you aren’t the focal point of the team, you’re by default a finisher, or a role player. That doesn’t mean you sit in the corner and shoot threes while #1 cooks. Your role could be to drop and efficient 21-25 per night and take the offense load off of the main star, like Dwade to Bron. I do think there can be multiple creators on a team. Like CP and Harden on the Rockets

Man the disrespect to the older guys that played before is way out of line. You talking about skills? Some of the greatest players that I have seen in my life came from eras before. Players before were restricted in playing a certain way. They didn't have all the stuff that these players have. You talking about skills. How many guys today are high on fundamentals? Not a lot.
