My key takeaway from the first two episodes is if the chasers say "I don't understand why he's doing this thing - what crucial detail are we missing?", the answer is "the runner has been cursed and can't do the optimal thing he'd normally be doing."

Great takeaway. The curse cards were new this season and even the team who created them didn't yet appreciate how much they complicate the strategies of not only the runner but also the chasers, who now can't as easily anticipate the actions of the runner.

Regarding the Burghers of Calais, it's a little more than just surrender The story goes when England was laying siege on Calais in 1347, Philip VI of France ordered the city to hold out no matter the cost. He failed, and starvation forced Calais to surrender. King Edward III said he'd spare Calais' civilians if six of their leaders (burghers) would surrender to him to be yeeted off. He demanded they wear nooses (which you see on the sculpture) and carry the keys to the city and its castle. Six eventually did volunteer, and Saint Pierre took them to the gates. However, they were spared because Edward III's wife Philippa of Hainault intervened because she thought it would be a bad omen for her unborn child. Calais would remain in English hands until 1558 when the French did their own siege.

As a European who has traveled North America, I still get annoyed at how bad public transit is, and how expensive intercity travel is. In most places in Europe, it is also good quqlity and frequent, so not just 2 trains per day between two big cities. And border control between the US and Canada, how ridiculous. Europeans from the European Union and the European economic zone (ie. most countries) are allowed to live in any other of these coiuntries, and you only need a national ID card (displaying your nationality) to travel in that zone. Most of these countries are also part of the Schengen zone, meaning no border checks, so you mostly only notice you're in another country from different street signs, place names and language. When you move to a different country B, your driver's license is still valid and when you renew it, you get the one from country B. Meanwhile, in the US, you need a new license when moving to a different state within the country....

Come visit! It's very fun to travel in Europe, and it's very easy to visit 10-15 countries during a 3 week holiday just using PT. It helps a LOT that trains aren't nearly as much of a hassle to get on as planes, and that there's free movement between most EU countries. For example, I can leave my home in Delft, on foot, and be at the train station in central Paris in a little over 3 hours just walking and using public transport.

Future idea: Race from one place to another. But the caveat is you can only use a given form of transportation for a max distance. Can't reuse that form of transportation again until you've used at least two others that get you a minimum distance from your previous transportation spot. Like, max train ride is 20 miles. So take a train. Then you take a car that takes you 5 miles from where you got off the train. Then you take a bicycle for 5 miles from where you got out of the car. Now you can take the train again, but can't use a car or bicycle. Challenge cards give you more/less distance on modes or gives you free uses.

Cool idea, but the problem with a preplanned thing like that is it can be solved. There is a technical fastest route, and you can find it You could also both take about the same routes. In something like tag or tic-tac-toe you have to be reactive and it's a more organic game
@smgibb
@smgibb Жыл бұрын
@@isaacbragg-gardiner2456 I'd make the rules such that the destination isn't known until the game starts, so no pre-planning allowed. Also you would be time limited as well as distance limited per transportation mode. Bus delayed by 10 minutes putting you over the time limit? Major time penalty. Also if you exceed the time limit, you must get off that transportation mode ASAP (next stop for train/bus, next town center for car/bike) That would minimize planning and put risk/reward calculations into play that each player would make. Take the bus that gets you closer but uses most of your time and risk getting stuck for an additional hour? Or take the bus that doesn't last go as far and doesn't have the penalty risk, but you risk falling behind.

This is much better than the Amazing Race! I watched the new season tonight of TAR and it isn't as exciting, because now they use a chartered plane to fly contestants everywhere. The glitches and travel hiccups are what make it fun. Jet Lag brings back the suspense of travel, especially when everyone has to pivot and make last minute decisions when it comes to mode of transport. Minus the random microphone issues, the whole production is planned and executed with a tremendous amount of effort.

Actually, if he weren't being chased, Adam travelling to Paris is quite logical. Paris, as the capital of France, is a *MAJOR* hub of transport, not just around France but also to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. In fact, because of the high speed and well maintained connections, it would quite possibly be faster for an individual (outside of the Jetlag scenario) to reach their destination by first travelling to Paris. (For Adam to get from Calais to wherever he needs to go (I forgor name 💀), Paris probably would be faster than a regional network).

Never heard of Wendover productions or anyone in these videos for this channel, but I am in LOVE!! This is honestly some of the best content on KZbin, and as a very competitive person, seeing you guys play these games with stupid amounts of strategy is awesome. I'm gonna go get a nexus subscription soon to watch the next episode and support the channel. Keep up the amazing work yall.

Go online and look up the pronunciation for the word Burghers. “Bur-grz” So he is pronouncing it correctly. And also at 11:13 he says the French version of it also. “Les Bourgeois de Calais”.

The thing they're most famous for isn't being in the statue, it's for surrendering themselves to Edward III to be executed to end the siege of Calais. The statue directly depicts that, so that's why it's the first thing that comes up on wikipedia. It is commemorated because they sacrificed themselves to save the people of Calais (except themselves obviously).

I was getting so frustrated with Sam. He should've left Calais! Go by bus or taxi or something and go at least towards your destination lmao. He saved up a bunch of coins which is good but when he pulled the museum card I was shouting: "NO MORE CARDS, GET OUT OF CALAIS!!" lol

Firstly the best moment of any jetlagged episode is at 21:00 when the other train goes by and he almost shit himself LMFAO! And 2 they act as if they don't know that there are cards to be pulled... Like at 27:00 when Sam is saying that he is afraid they are missing something crucial... They never stop to think or at least say "he must me doing a challenge..."

The museum one seems poorly designed since it seems more advantageous to just veto it if you've got the money. Takes too long to make it worth it.
@ZanHecht
@ZanHecht Жыл бұрын
It takes 20 minutes, a veto takes 30 minutes. If you're within 10 minutes of a museum the task is faster.
@DorShemer
@DorShemer Жыл бұрын
@@ZanHecht sure, but with a veto you can use your time to go somewhere else, like walking to a train station for your next move
@tushargupta1968
@tushargupta1968 Жыл бұрын
You are forgetting the fact that you earn coins at the end of it, whereas if you veto it, you are doing nothing for the next 30 minutes. And that is considering that you are 20 minutes away from the museum. 10 minutes for that many coins is definitely worth it, rather than no coins.
@PsionicDude
@PsionicDude Жыл бұрын
Why is it more advantageous to not get coins and be stuck for 30 minutes than to get coins and be stuck for 20 minutes? It's only advantageous if you can't get to a museum quickly.
