In my nearly 60 years of guitar playing -- with several years worth of selling both Gibsons and Martins -- it is my humble opinion that Gibsons were made to enhance and support the human voice; and Martins were made for bluegrass leads and acoustic rock music in general. They each have their wonderful place in music ... And Guild probably has historically made the best acoustic 12-strings in the business.

Some do, but most are dogs, new guitars are great, esp the cheap ones. My friend has a 53 or 54 goldtop and it's horrible, looks cool but really bad to play and sounds no better than a Harley Benton with p90s, tho everyone thinks it sounds amazing, it really doesn't

He got a Grecco, they are spot on Les Paul burst clones. His had original Gibson pickups from the 1960s and he has updated the plastics to be correct to a 1960 burst.

As usual, another great guitar adventure! Question for you, Jeremy. Have you ever played a Martin with an "Authentic 37 Barrel and Heel" neck? I don't have any I can check out in my area and don't know if it would be too big for me or not. I'm used to a 1974 Martin D-35 neck.

When I was guitar shopping I could not believe the fit and finish. $1,100 for a nitro offset with an ebony fretboard and top notch appointments and it played like butter. Once I realized they are run by the old Gibson Kalamazoo team it made complete sense. I then threw my wallet at the sales rep lol.

@@ManlyMcBeardFace Heritage made acoustic guitars for a very short time after Gibson left for Nashville. I have one made in 1988. It's a HFT-445 shade top. It's my favorite and best sounding acoustic guitar and I own a couple of Martins.

it's true about vintage guitars, they're mostly hard to play and sound , well - OK,
@rosewoodsteel66563 жыл бұрын
Frank, many old guitars are hard to play because they require unaddressed maintenance. Some of them sound fantastic. Some of them sound average. It would be ill advised to lay down vintage money on a guitar without holding it and playing it first. So, what acoustic are you playing?
@frankcarter64273 жыл бұрын
@@rosewoodsteel6656 exactly. my main squeeze is a '96 K Yairi DY53n, what yanks call an alvarez yairi canyon creek I believe, my current favourite guitar is a secondhand sigma J200 studioncopy I paid £150 for and for camping, an ancient and much loved AandL folk cedar, though its getting high action again and there's no saddle left on it. I had a D18 but never played it cos it didn't feel right and got £1800 for it, the one I miss was a j45 when they first reissued them for £999 in the 90's I sold it for £1500 and wish I hadn't. In my view, cheap guitars are increasingly difficult to tell from expensive ones (I'm 60 and there were no good cheapieswhen I started)
@rosewoodsteel66563 жыл бұрын
@@frankcarter6427 Agreed! All of the cheap guitars when I was young were pieces of crap with strings a foot off of the fret board. It sounds like you have some fine guitars. I bet that cedar top is great for finger style!
