I have a disc called PSX-treme which works well on the PSOne model. Basically it boots up and then you switch the disc. It comes with a pre made tab to hold the lid button on.

We just used blue tac and didn’t need anything else just swop disk at beginning

Funny enough, those speeds actually are called 1x and 2x.

So, if after the final swap, it starts rapidly alternating between the two speeds (almost like revving an engine), what does that mean? Did I mess up a swap or is the disc itself bad?

Could be a bad Disc. Re-burn the game at the slowest possible speed on high quality media. It could also be an issue with the laser itself (laser intensity might need to be tweaked slightly or if a 1000 Series Bias and Gain control might need to be set). Or it could just be the Laser itself is wearing out.

might be having problems reading the disc. if you get to the second swap, tho, that's a promising sign. I'd try again a few times. Might give a few potentiometer adjustment vids a view, too. Not as scary as it seems and can make a huge difference playing backup games.

Not only UniROM is an option but theres also an alternate firmware flash from NO$PSX called the NO$PSX Kernal Clone, which i had more success in booting games both burned, import and some HK Silvers (the factory stamped pirate discs) on my console. The big issue with that firmware flash is its pretty picky with carts to flash some will work (like my Mini Goldfinger) and some will try to flash and brick the device. As an added bonus it can also manage memory card saves & play VCDs. As for CD-Rs, i feel like the quality CD-Rs from back in the day could be easily bought but nowadays unless you go out and get Taiyo Yuden discs (hopefully without running into fake TYs), ALOT of CD-R brands are completely hit & miss and more miss than anything, mostly with the dye used in modern CD-Rs just dont play nice in PSX systems.

With NO$PSX Kernal which I managed to flash onto a Cartridge, it would only allow me to boot original games on a PS1 with no ModChip. Is that normal?

Not all Verbatim discs are produced by MMC. CD-R discs are not the same quality as the originals, Imation was made by Moser Baer originally. TY have been sold to CMC, crappy CD-R do exists in the past. It was the Onechip that alters the BIOS to force NTSC games. older CD-RW burners can burn at very low speed, modern ones don't burn slower anymore.

That is a shame to hear. I haven't had any issues unless the laser in the console has been weak and struggles to read Burned Media. The method I show you in this video, is one I have used since 1998 and I have done this on virtually every different Model of PS1 Console (SCPH-100X up to and including the PSOne SCPH-10X).

The quality of the burner you use makes a huge difference, only 1 out of my 5 burners can burn something the ps1 can read at any speed.

True I must have been lucky that my relatively modern Burner worked even at its lowest speed.

@@DaveDoc1984 yep it’s all luck, it’s all about the combination of the quality of your blank media and the quality of your burner, if both are good you can actually burn at higher speeds and not have an issue. All burning at lower speeds does is compensate for bad media and or bad burner.

Multi Mode 3 should work for most. Taio Yuden discs are best.

Hi , I've got a Modded slim ps2 , and I recently burned A ps1 game on CD-R , once inserted , the disc icon shows without error but once I launch the CD , it brings me back to the dashboard menu .do you have any idea?

It could be a faulty CD-R disc.

For PS1 backups 650mb CD-Rs work better than 700mb CD-Rs.

Except for the fact some games won't fit onto a 650mb CD-R.... For example Gran Turismo is 670mb's in size. Gran Turismo 2 is 675mb's.

I've always had my ps1 chipped and my copy games have always worked but I havent played it for a for years and now they're not working I've tried the disc swap but the discs won't spin if the lid is open 😭

TESCO CD-Rs have been absolutely the worst CDs I have ever used with the original PlayStation. It was like a decade ago when I tried to use them and the games barerly booted, maybe a bad batch of discs or my burner wasnt playing nicely with them. I used Verbatim CDs instead and had zero issues. Nice video though.

I use to do this back in the day, but it wears and tears your console over time, a mod chip would be safer.

If done badly too many times, yes it could damage the console but... its not longer necessary. Look at FreePSXBoot.....

The Verbatim you have isn't the same as the real Verbatim You have the "Extra protection" discs but they're actually made by CMC Magnetics and this is why you have issues with it. If you'd use AZO CD-Rs you won't have any problems with them. However you can't see the labels on the AZO CDs because they aren't white

Depends what burning program You used .some are Better than others. I used to use Nero burning Rom and dvd. between 2 speed and 4 speed depending on the game Phillips CD-ROM were the best or max well at a push . Data right Grey DVD’r for burning games

How does that work? the console will do an ADDITIONAL check for the Region code at the PlayStation screen? Unless A) You have one of the 1000 series machines that didn't have this additional check or B) you wait for the additional check to happen [you know the precise moment it does this] and then you swap the backup disc in then.

Emulation for the Playstation is on the whole , very good. Nothing beats actually turning your Ps1 on and hearing that dooo dooo dooo though. I've played quite a few PS1 games on an emu that played excellently but I still go back to my console. I have the PSIO. It rocks.

I don't understand your question? If you have a backup copy of a game or an Import and your PlayStation isn't mod chipped... you can't play that game.

This wont work. The console will still have the copy and region protection in place. You need to have a modchip installed or use a cartridge such as Smart Cartridge or one flashed with UniROM
