A Song of Ice and Fire the Miniatures Game and Star Wars Legion are great games, not only for their clean rules and great miniatures, but they also have great communities that are incredibly supportive. Couple that with the movies, shows, and books that go with the properties, there are lots of things to immerse yourself in and connect with communities over!

@@OntheTableGaming I love the community aspect of these hobbies and think it's one of the most important and helpful elements that make it such a helpful coping skill. Thank you for sharing. :)

I do agree with any single focus activity being a mindful/ meditative practice (I've been doing Tai Chi and other Chinese internal martial arts for over 30 years now). However, war gaming is a simulation of warfare. The brain chemicals and induced body changes can be received very poorly on some people with mental health struggles. Coping Skills are what you execute/implement in a given situation. Playing a game is not a coping skill. Game playing can manifest Happiness or in the best cases they can manifest Joy. 🤗 I think Eckhart Tolle puts it best, "don't be attached to outcomes" 😊

I appreciate that you use martial arts as a form of mindfulness practice. Anything healthy can be used for an individual as a form of coping and you are right, gaming may not be helpful for everyone, very similarly to how any other coping skill may not be helpful to some but helpful to others. It is up t the individual to filter through the vast variety of available coping strategies to find what works for them. And that is what this channel is all about. Showing multiple ways and tools to provide alternative coping methods to fill your individual needs.

Very informative. How true that board games reduce stress and improve mental health. It is sad that there are people that report mental illness then ask for monetary gifts on youTube(scamers). There is a girl in Europe that actually posted her mailing address hoping for pity gifts. I'm glad that there are real people out there trying to make a difference. Let's be kind to each other and lets GAME!!!!

Awesome video! I found the link in the Marvel Crisis Protocol Facebook group, so thank you for sharing! Besides playing Warhammer 40K Kill Team, I enjoy Zombicide, Horrified, Star Wars X-Wing and of course, Marvel Crisis Protocol. Assembling and painting models is my therapy during the pandemic and I also host a gaming podcast for beginner gamers and hobbyists. Thank you for doing this video!

Painting miniatures, and absorbing myself in the lore and strategies for skirmish miniature wargames of all kinds has helped me through some deep dark times. The hobby aspect helps with alone time. Finding people to play the games with gave me a reason to try to become more social, to get games in. The hobby just gave me something to both distract me and focus me at the same time, and at the time I needed both.

I run a Mental health tabletop gaming group based in the UK, my aim is to help people with their mental health through the different aspects of wargaming such building, painting, playing, and providing a safe place for people to come to try tabletop games and meet people who also are suffering with mental health. We play a wide range of games from Warhammer 40k, Dungeons and Dragons and board games!

The last one I played, was a Disney Villans game. It takes a little brain power, but it is sooooo much fun!! I can't wait to play again! 😊 Then it was this really cool virtual thing we did on our phones and via zoom. It was pretty cool! Back in the day, I used to play RPGs. My favorite was Guild Wars, a lot like WOW. But most of my "games" were writing stories back and fourth. 😊 (This is probably why I did well at my first DnD session.) Haha, Now I want to play some games! 😊 Thanks for this! I will put this technique to good use when I work with my in home.
