"It's like if a Roman pickpocket heard about Caesar crossing the Rubicon and decided 'oh I'm fucking sorting this'" That description of your main characters motives was gold. Brigand: Panama does a lot of things right/better from Brigand Oaxaca, but it also creates a ton of new problems. "Hot mess" sums it up really, and yet, it does feel like there's potential underneath it all. It just needs a ton of polishing and maybe a second draft. And the better ending you described reminds me of Deus Ex Invisible War's finale/ending. Probably the one part of that game what was good.

@@planescaped I think most Deus Ex endings are bad because they try to stick to the rules their settings allow them. Invisible War's setting is way wackier with grey goo events and universal ammo, the ending is just as wacky. The other Deus Exes are way more about hard science fiction and corporate nightmares, so the endings reflect that, the writers couldn't come up with endings that were happy in worlds that are so ultimately fucked up, it would be out of place, in invisible war's case it wasn't so they went with it.

As glorious a mess as this game is, there's...honestly a good reason that this kind of thing rarely if ever pops up. Man there's so much to adore with this episode. Everything from the silky smooth structure that doesn't get lost in all the playthroughs, the callbacks (that Boiling Point patch notes ones was a deep cut!) to even the more subtle things like xenus background music and the Kevin MacLeod royalty free tracks which just fit add to that lovely feeling of budget jank. Punished Seul Meyers was definitely a brilliant idea! Also, it may be a small thing but you going out of your way to add unique fonts to each of the franchise's you cover is a charming little touch that is very appreciated. It adds a lot and seeing the same font from Oaxaca makes it almost nostalgic in a way. Thanks again for making something that envokes the same feeling as being a kid the day before his birthday. But seeing these games through your videos is fantastic. I am fascinated by this singular vision of game development, especially when comparing the two. Brigand is so eclectic and weird in its story, but with some miserable game sections. While Panama has some really great-looking gameplay moments, but with a blander story. Just when I watch your first video, I can feel the dread with all of those sections, but the Panama encounters look awesome. I love how Saul stopped giving a shit, had a few and ended the world with Lee; Glasge Snapped so hard he broke reality and Jimmy was such a dissapointment that the girl he romanced turned on him and helped kill him the second she had the chance. As for the ending, I would have swapped Lee and Ozee, and have Lee be a bigger presence in the story. say that Ozee's ship was damaged by the fighting which is why there's a bunch of baroque on the coastline, they are protecting both Ozee who is in the city and the ship as it's been repaired. then the mission changes to the player having to destroy the ship and kill Ozee.

After N-th rewatch, this just hit me: is Lee's phone line a riff on Fallout 2's hint book? You know, the one you can find AFTER you beat the game and watch epilogue, that gives moderate exp bonus and a lot of hints about events you have lived through tens of hours ago.

Having watched the video twice now. Yep, it still holds up. I mean OAXACA is obviously more insane, but I like the three character perspectives from the start and how each character actually had a chance to complete the game (Games allowing for different builds to work is good. IDK why we can't just do that more often...). The gameplay seems so much better and more enjoyable, but the story is now ... whack. Despite the disappointment from the story I could easily tell you really enjoyed the game and it seems enjoyable. Especially when Glasgae broke everything with his almighty spears. Despite being a 2/3 "Average" score, Glasgae's adventure was my favorite. I do hope Saul finds his true happy ending in the next life.
