I totally get it, there are days where I just don't feel like putting in the mental work to play a game against a human and will play games against bots and do puzzles/courses instead. Your mental state is so important when you are playing and your confidence can 100% tank a winning game if you aren't feeling it.

they should add that pawn endgame tactic you missed as a puzzle

Great comeback! Don't worry about losing elo, you'll get it back. Take a break if you need to. Once you start obsessing about elo, you run the risk of going full Kiwi. You're doing fine!

I love your videos bro ❤! You're doing amazing and I def see you being 2000 elo soon. One piece of advice I have though is to just believe in yourself. I feel like you gave up too easily at the end because you wanted a draw when you were definitely winning. You're a good chess player so don't sell yourself short and go for the win next time bro you got it 💪!!!

Yeah that endgame was slightly tough to play so I see why a draw was done. At 17:11, I figured taking the knight instead of Ke6 would be winning since you get to e5 and could potentially queen first after some pawns are taken, but maybes it’s unclear. I didn’t calculate far enough after taking so can’t say for sure.

I just looked back at the game and Bxe2 leads right to a draw so scratch that

I would recommend IM John Barthemelow's Chess Fundamentals series; they're targeted at intermediate (1000-1500) rated players but can still really help you have a strong foundation, which is vital as you go up the ratings (esp. since in chess one blunder or two mistakes can lose you the game at your level) @4:20: The endgame is difficult for you (losing with best play on both sides, but your opponent will not play all the top engine moves). I wouldn't say it's "lost" as you have the bishop and the play is on both sides. Of course, the game is much harder for you but you're not clearly "lost" (unless the opponent is highly skilled at endgames). By the way, why did your opponent place all his pawns on the color of your bishop (isn't that creating weaknesses for you to attack)? @9:45: I think Bb5 earlier to block the knight check was best (and then you take the extra pawn); it's possible for your opponent to even lose then. I don't think your opponent played the endgame optimally. Nice job drawing the endgame. I would do some endgame practice (both defending pawn down positions and converting pawn up positions); if you master the endgame, you can gain 200-300 elo (saving or sometimes even winning pawn down positions and winning equal/better endgames). I would also recommend endgame puzzles so that you can take advantage of endgame throws by your opponent more effectively; your opponent was about to lose a pawn up ending. :)

Very interesting game about square control. I think you played well, even if there were couple of misses. That king shouldering is a pattern well worth remembering. At 8:05 the critical square is c4 to prevent Knight jump. Bb5 and Black wins the pawn at d6. Black is slightly better due to king activity and weak b3 pawn in a practical game.

I think that you have the right idea to go back into puzzles and play against some 1800 elo bots. Unlike human players the computers skill level doesn't fluctuate. Even if you lose consistently against the engine your accuracy will improve. Just try not to build the habit of burning the clock making decisions. Maybe play against a 1200 elo bot in a rapid format. Even taking a break from chess in general could be exactly what you need. Could give you a fresh perspective when you come back to it.

Take your time to calculate some lines 3 or 4 moves deep instead of just 1 move. Its probably the easiest way to improve in the 500-800 range without needing to study openings or end games or anything. Just play 15+10 rapid instead of blitz and use your clock to calculate lines. Don't rush moves.

To be fair. that is something I would expect an 1800 to know. No excuse for taking that draw. It should have been a win.
