This is day 148 of my journey to get to a rating of 2000 on chess.com.
In this game we play the Jobava London!
Was happy to find a GREEK GIFT sacrifice in a game, but honestly pretty shocked at how many tactics I missed. I've just ordered a new chess book to help me with my tactics and I think it may elevate my chess game to a new level of spotting tactics and not playing as poorly as I did in this game! However, it was still a fun one!
So far on the series:
94 wins 9 draws 74 losses

"it's probably wrong" - brilliant move lol. you're right, we were all laughing but also it was a great find. bummer you didn't get the win also no, nothing wrong with flagging/using the clock as another guy said haha. part of the game, you've had games where you could've won but lost due to time management, so using the clock as a weapon is absolutely valid!

Again, it's so much easier to play when you have the confidence of an analysis board. Ahhh, I could have played so much better hahaha 😂😂😂

flagging is part of the game. you could argue he has an advantage cause if you had spent more time on the clock you might have made a better move at some point. Also you counter offered the draw so it's on him at that point

Calling a bishop sacrifice a “trojan horse” hurts my soul hahah. The Greek gift sac is so based though

Just found your channel with this video. I can't tell you how many of my games look exactly like this. I am so confident I have them on the run, but somehow I give it away. Chess is really hard huh? But, really fun too.

I think we discussed this 1...Nf6 2...e6 line before. You should play the immediate 3.e4, which works both against 3...a6 and 3...Bb4 with 4.e5, e.g. 3...a6 4.e5 Nd5 5.Ne4 (White has a distinct edge) or 3...Bb4 4.e5 Nd5 5.Qg4! The latter position is one worth analysing, until you understand why it works (e.g. 5...Nxc3 6.Qxg7 Nd5+ 7.c3 is one line).

I didn't mention this in my analysis, but I felt super stronly about going e4 on my third move at some point later in that game. My instinctive Bf4 was just impulsive and i remember thinking that it tempted him to play a6. Yes, I just hope I can remember this. I'll try to keep it in my mind! These are helpful lines!

I think if you are in trouble like in the situation with the “blundered knight“, you should look for checks. I‘ve recognised it a few times. And the time as a weapon is part of the game i think. That is my opinion. If he moves too slow, than it is his fault.

Have you watched any of the youtuber IM Alex Banzea? He's got loads of vids on the jobava. The way he talks through his thinking is really helpful too, I find. I've just watched his vid on the grunfeld for black and having good success with that now too.

Thanks for the feedback on the grunfeld! Yes, I've watched a bunch of his jobava videos and found them to be quite helpful! Maybe I need to rewatch some haha

When you havent castled yet, chasing that bishop away, thats pinning your knight, with the pawns is usually the way to go. You get a lot of tempo on the pawns from that, and you can just castle to the other side

I didn't want isolated doubled pawns. I also didn't want him to have the tempo which he would have had after I recapture his bishop

It started so good but then it was a bunch of random moves from both

Started good, I just played like a Muppet throughout... Frustrating looking at it after, but hopefully I can start playing more consistent

Enjoyable to watch, regardless. Maybe you should go for longer matches. Oh wait...they get more time as well. I'm rooting for you anyway.

It was a Trojan Horse, not a Trojan Bishop. 🤣

Hahaha nope trojan bishop!!

Ah, you didn't realise that you had him completely at your mercy and all you had to do was recapture on e5 with the pawn. The trouble with the N discovery was that your Queen was attacked by the pawn e5. If you don't recognise this tactical nuance, then you should have invested a little time to calculate the moves.
