If you'd like a fast game, Hover is something I've heard a lot about. So many people just explore the map while going fast, pulling off stunts, and doing this and that. I'm not sure if it'll fit into what you'd like to do as it seems to be one of those collect everything here games.

Were the frame rate dips because of optimization or was your PC having trouble?
@Tehsnakerer7 жыл бұрын
I think it's a bit of both. Cloudbuilt fought being recorded on my system at every step, it's only when I started using Shadowplay for it I got around that.
@lilturk7267 жыл бұрын
Tehsnakerer Gotcha. I was wondering because it looked like it would be a pain to deal with, especially in a platformer that requires precision. Thanks for the reply Snake.

ok afterthought video question for ya do you think not having a fuel gage could have made the game better or would you rather have the fuel gage be self reginirating instead
@HarmonicaPresents3 жыл бұрын
Huh, I didn't realize you had already done a video on this game. Yeah, I ended up randomly picking up Super Cloudbuilt, and aside from the menu thing, I didn't notice my experience being significantly different from yours. The levels with no enemies were my favorite, and not just because of the problems you highlighted with the enemies, but the maps themselves seemed to be designed as gigantic explorative playgrounds teeming with options for you to experiment with your mobility, to the point where both stopping to look around to plan your route, as well as seamlessly moving across the levels with massive momentum, were incredibly engaging... And yeah, you definitely feel needlessly unpowered in combat, so many enemies just slow the pace down to a halt because they almost always need to be dealt with because one hit will send you spiraling to your death. Still, there was definitely something addicting to its movement systems, and those early levels you called DLC demonstrating a certain flash of brilliance. I'd love to experience something like it in first person.

The controls are nearly perfect, its the questionable map design at 14:17 that makes it feel "sticky". That top part of the slide shouldn't be grabbable. The way she latches onto walls at 14:52 is intended and 100% player controlled and the game is designed around it. If you have the appropriate momentum and tilt your camera up as you contact the wall then you will zip up the wall at no energy cost to start. If you lack one of those two things, she will grab the wall and has to use a chunk of energy just to start the climb. Climbing and wall-run have different properties and smoothly transitioning into them is prob the 2nd biggest part of learning the game. I was equally frustrated at 14:47 and then it forced me to learn the things written above, took me a 100 tries but then I beat it again right after.

I think one tweak would have fixed the combat: Make the gun auto-charge. The game is all about those quick-draw shots - a turret or a land mine shows up in the middle of your wall-run and you're supposed to blow it away without breaking stride. And if you know all the enemy positions so you can charge up in advance, you can do that and it looks really badass, but on your first time through you're going to pepper them with wimpy standard shots before getting blasted off the wall. Give me the big one-hit-kill explosive shot as a primary fire instead of a charge move, and I could kill those mines on the first try. Or at least I'd be able to make the attempt, and that would probably be enough to make me feel like I have a fighting chance.

Have you played Titanfall 2? That seems to match your interests
@shrubman34225 жыл бұрын
I think would better if the main character had the ability to use bullet time or the ability gain a little bit of fuel when you kill enemies. They should have focused on speed or fast pace combat. For example at the end of each route they should have a boss or stage themed around them. How awesome would it be for the sadness route you have to fight a giant metal bird while barreling down a collapsing tower. In order to get close enough to shoot its weak spot you have to shoot some if it's feathers of and wall run off the boost pads on them. As the battle goes on the bird deteriorates more and more until it nothing more than a skeleton crashing into the exit. Or maybe chasing after it as it plowes through buildings from her memories and you have to wall run the debris while picking off drones and explosive feathers.

While I do think that the game could do without the more direct enemies and the gun, I disagree with some of your comparisons to the other games. Mainly the "trial-and-error" part. Every single one of the games mentioned has a hefty chunk of trial-and-error, Clustertruck more so than Cloudbuilt in my experience due to wonky physics. While you can finish some of the stages in SEUM and Deadcore the first few times around (and obviously Sonic), that becomes less and less likely as time goes on. And that's just finishing a stage. Actually getting a good time in SEUM or Sonic (I haven't played Deadcore much outside of finishing it because I didn't like the enemies in that game either) is also something where you have to replay a stage several times, trying different paths and learning techniques to find the fastest one. So, yeah, while Cloudbuilt has its share of problems I find that most time trial based platformers have similar problems and I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

Tehsnakerer im having the same issue right now im a graphic arts student and we have a magazine and i was tasked to review a indie game i was gonna do postal 2 since i like that game and its one i have experience with it but was told it was to old oddly enough since you know what postal 2 is like but its so hard to review 7 days since it has no plot and just is. mine craft with zombies so how do u find your self able to review a game that maybe is not bad or good but just a poor clone i.e. watch dogs 1 and the true crimes games minus sleeping dogs i know this basically turned into a interview but im kinda lost sorry if i dont make sense i tend to ramble also thanks for the reply
@Tehsnakerer7 жыл бұрын
No problem, I can't say I know what the specification is for the review you have to make, but if it has to be indie and you're stuck for time I'd say tackle something small, well known and easily digestible, unless you really have something in mind. Spitballing but games like Audiosurf, Bleed, or maybe a mod like Fistful of Frags, so money won't be a problem. Also, good, bad, or average doesn't make much difference, since a review isn't to just say why a game is the way it is, but why. It doesn't have to be insanely academic either, just think about why you feel the way you do about a game. If the core gameplay feels satisfying or not, whether the graphical style is appealing, since it's a multiplayer game, perhaps an anecdote from time playing, everything is potential material, just pick what's important to you when reviewing the game. I finished uni last year, so best of luck with your studies, and one of the best lessons I got was on taking and using written materials for when writing essays, and we were asked between an academic article, a tabloid film review, or a think piece all on the same movie, which was most important, the answer is they're all equally important but for very different purposes.

Personally I love this game, but a lot of your complaints are valid about Cloudbuilt. Demi does feel like she's made out of super glue, your gun does suck, the enemies are frustrating, and the story is relayed pretty poorly. These are all just things I pushed past since I loved the platforming mechanics so much, but they are issues. If you did find some fun in Cloudbuilt, which it sounds like you did, I'd urge you to checkout Super Cloudbuilt. Coilworks just showed it off at PAX East and they've addressed some of the issues you've brought up here. The levels all have more unique themes, your gun has been massively overhauled and is far more powerful, the story structure has been improved, and a lot of quality of life changes have been made as well. Things like having only one wall run state so you don't get the clunky switching Cloudbuilt has, and the continuous dash being far more energy efficient and accelerating faster. Plus, you get some kind of discount on Super Cloudbuilt if you own the normal Cloudbuilt, so it's probably worth a look. Also, would you mind crediting the GDQ footage? I don't mind you using it, I'd just like a link somewhere to either my channel or the GDQ channel :)
