Honestly this feels like a middle ground between playing ttrpgs and writing a novel, so interesting!

It would be interesting to take the basic Loner template but customize what happens on various rolls… getting a bit weirder with what each roll means. Ie instead of “6 = injured” it could be like “6 = becomes ill via a fantasy illness”. Or more detailed. You get it

THANK YOU! I love this system, but you're the first person I've heard mention it on KZbin. The Twist table is great, the 6 Luck system is a perfect anti-crunch mechanic that keeps the story moving quickly, the "Everything is a character" idea is a great writing prompt, I just can't say enough. One important thing wasn't mentioned in this video. The scene starter on page 9 is fantastic. Roll 6D6 for key words related to Who, What, Why, Where, How & Obstacle, then interpret your opening scene from there. Every time I've used this a clear story line has come to mind. Once I rolled up a story and asked a few oracle questions to flesh it out. Turns out I was the villain of that story. That was unexpected, but I rolled with it and had a lot of fun!

the funniest part about this whole video is that this weird uncle character who can't remember a single thing about dnd CLEARLY read and understood the entire book before deciding it was good enough to give to his nerdy nephew

Continuing through an NPC is a fantastic idea! It would be crazy to move forward as one of the thieves, and have to justify your day job. Like maybe you have a sick sister at home, or a debt you are paying off to a crime boss. I have a place in my heart for solo RPGs after waiting hours in line for my first COVID shot playing thousand year old vampire.

The reason why I opted out of a gaming pc and started digging into ttrpgs is because I did not want to be harassed judged and criticized by heartless online users.

This is based on Freeform Universal. I suggested to Nathan (creator of FU) that he should do a solo version over 2 years ago. He said FU 2e was going to have solo rules, but he keeps delaying it by working on other games. This looks OK, but honestly, I think using FU itself would give a better play experience.
@robertobisceglie21875 ай бұрын
Loner is a FU hack as acknowledged in game credits, Nathan is well aware of its existence. It's my personal build of FU for solo play, using Recluse as a main mechanic and 6Q System for the harm rules. The purpose was to limit the dice pool to make the game portable.
@jcraigwilliams705 ай бұрын
@robertobisceglie2187 yes, I know it's acknowledged in the credits, which is how I knew it was based on/ inspired by FU. I also assumed Nathan was aware. What I was trying to suggest in my comment was that I'd really love for him to actually put out FU2. It's been 5 years since the beta rules were released and nothing new seems to be on the horizon. I spoke to him a couple of times about doing solo rules because FU seems almost ideal for solo play. It feels like he's missing a good opportunity to get FU in more hands. I'd compare it, in a way, to Game of Thrones. George R. R. Martin has been so slow writing his books that the writers of the TV show had to finish his story for him. I'm not saying anything against this game, just that Nathan, as the creator of FU, is missing a good opportunity.

You should try Ironsworn, it's an incredible viking-inspired TTRPG that can be played solo, Co-op or guided (with a GM). I recommend 1 to 4 character players. Oh, and the whole base game/digital rule book is completely free. The "Delve" Addon adds some nice dungeon mechanics to it but to get a feel for the game it isn't needed at all. Certainly got my creative/imagination side going.

Looks okay, but I prefer Ironsworn and Mythic 2 (with whatever system you want to use it with). But Ironsworn and Starforged are so good, it's hard to imagine any solo game outdoing them
@jcraigwilliams705 ай бұрын
I love Ironsworn and Starforged but I'd say it depends on the genre. Each game system has its own feel, so there are times when I prefer to use Mythic with something like Savage Worlds, or Fate.
