You have to play on the air! This sentence is heard very often as a trumpeter, especially among beginners. Even when it comes to the higher register on the trumpet, this sentence comes up quite often.
But what does this mean and how can you practice this "playing in the air"? ❓❔
By thinking about the higher notes on the trumpet, it happens all too often that the throat becomes tight, one cramped or mentally stressed. The consequence of these points: you cannot reach the notes, not cleanly, or you just tear them, i.e. kick them.
Instead, one should try to think of the tones as stretched out on a string of pearls, that is, not on floors but straight out on the air stream.
💡 The big advantage of this technology:
The tones move closer together, you reach it much more loosely and you can stay more relaxed, which is beneficial in terms of endurance and sound.
