The funny thing about the disc golf prices is that spending $19 on a star plastic disc vs $27 for a royal line disc won’t make a significant impact on your game. Mold/flight path of the disc is what matters most in terms of impacting performance. I think companies place a bit too much value on feel in terms of increasing pricing. Feel is subjective, and it’s also funny how when it comes to putters people often prefer base line plastics because they’re more grippy and tacky, but the smoother premium plastic putters cost more.

I can tell you from inside the snowsports product industry that price inflation is getting extreme partly due to rising costs, for sure, but a major factor is random companies popping into the market trying to market either super cheap or super expensive products. Got news for everyone: Unless it is a small niche handmade brand, it's all mostly the same stuff. Consumers are getting raked out there for crap that's either way too cheap and keeps them buying new product every year or way too expensive for something that a core brand could have sold for much cheaper. Those core brands have had to raise their prices significantly to justify that their products are truly the best, when most of the time they are.

I enjoyed the discussion on disc cost involving the Sockibomb General. Some additional thoughts I have include. -The general is not a stock disc. It is a disc in Ricky’s line up. Which have been marketed in an elevated way. -They also shot multiple commercials hyping this disc up. -the Royal Line/ Supreme discs have been priced at $28-30. So the jump to $33 is only a $3-$5 jump. Not so crazy. -over all disc golfers are some of the cheapest people. (I can fall into this category too) we will get upset at the slightest up charge. But as you guys mentioned there are multiple price points for similar discs. -ultimately the real test will be how well they sell.
@GripLocked6 ай бұрын
I guess it depends on how you look at stock discs. Would you consider the Luna, Passion, Zeus, etc. stock?
@Cspeck106 ай бұрын
@@GripLocked all of those discs you mentioned do have a stock stamps that are readily available. But even the Luna in a base plastic is sold for $19.99 which is higher for a base plastic disc. Compare to a stock roach that is $11.99. That is an $8 jump for a McBeth line Disc. On top of that I think DD has been consistent in marketing their Supreme Line as their top tier product. Great feeling plastic with the next edge technology. I guess in my mind I do not consider anything in the Supreme or Royal line to be a stock product. I consider it a cut above. Even if it has a "stock" stamp and is readily available. When you add Ricky's name and branding to that kind of product the price will go up. $33 is steep for me. And I might wait until I get a discount code to snag one. But I am not overly shocked by the price.

Yikun sells cheap plastic... there are plenty of Chinese and Asian companies that will make frisbees for cheap. You are forgetting all the X-out molds too, if discs are really that expensive, buy factory seconds, buy x-outs... buy used... I mean there are plenty of options for consumers. The disc manufacturers are not looking out for the retailers.. I can tell you that right now. If it mattered then MVP wouldn't have stopped selling signature series discs to retailers. House of Discs raised their prices because they can. They own how many companies now? 5? This is typical of investment firms which the company that owns House of Discs is. They want to get as much money as possible then once all 5 companies are indistinguishable from one another, they will sell the company and leave the sport worse off for it. All the good people from all the different companies now work directly for HoD, not DD, or Discmania, or Lat64. Their runs will start to be very similar. Then all they have to do is just slap a different name on something oh this is the DD Derp, but also the Dismania Herp. All 80 different plastics and names Fusion, Lucid, C-Line, S-Line, Horizon, Glimmer, Meta... it is all the same plastic and soon to be the same molds. So they will just come out with the same thing and sell it to people. All the 10 year olds that want to throw for Discmania will buy it, then all the people that throw DD will buy it, people that throw Kasta will buy it but at the end of the day it is the same thing just different foils and plastic embossing.
