Marco I haven’t watched all of it yet but Sonetto definitely isn’t meant to have a fluent “normal” conversation. She’s been indoctrinated in some way by the Foundation and I highly doubt that conversation was their priority

Macro, I am Chinese and now I am sure that the game is written in British English and then translated into Chinese and Japanese. Not just because the Chinese version is not authentic as for me, a Chinese, they even use some words in Early Mordern English like "thou" "thy" "hast" and you can even see Esperanto in this game. That is why sometimes some words or sentence may be weird. Take "speakeasy" for example, it is a word USED IN THE PROHIBITION ERA OF USA , nowadays maybe not everybody knows what speakeasy really is. But I really love your videos, and watched a lot of your videos like some videos about Genshin Impact. I also love this game. Thank you so much that you pick up this game too. Have a good day. :)

16:07 Actually, Regulus is specifically a "radio pirate," not a Pirates of the Caribbean pirate, which is why she looks nothing like a normal pirate. Basically radio pirates are people who broadcast their own radio stations without a radio license, which is why she has a bunch of records and is themed around music. In the UK in the 1960s, they would even operate in offshore facilities like anchored boats, which is what she is doing at the start of the game, so good catch on saying she looks like a holdout from the 1960s!

The Italian line Sonneto says when attacking is from the poem 《L'infinito》 written by Giacomo-Leopardi in 1819, so as many other dialogues. That's propably why you feel they are wierd or machine translated. I find the game designs are mostly exquisite, such as the twin girls from Shining, the last supper, John Titor, the Chicago Massacre and so on. By the way, your Enternity is originated from the oldest lady in the world who lived more than 115 years.

Sonetto's writing is rather strange. She is both very confident and uptight but at the same time timid and easy to fluster. The "Can... Could we go by bus?" is probably because she has never been outside all that much. Oh, and as for the Italian, I think there is a valid reason fot her strange italian. She was raised in St. Pavlov the whole time, which is a bag of mixed nuts (racially and mentally). Regulus even says that nobody would be able to tell that she's italian if it weren't for her occasional hand gestures. So in comparison to Pavia, who is an Italian by birth or Schneider who is also Italian by birth, it would make sense that her Italian is strange

It's hard to say if it's based of AI Art. I believe ai art has scarred us in these forms of styles, which makes us suspicious for any art style that has been done with ai art
@kiki123456able Жыл бұрын
Ive followed a number of artists since years ago that styles are used by ai generated images so often to the point when said artists post a new work, some people accused them of using ai. It's just sad. (Sorry if my grammar is bad, English is not my first language)
@DerekEu_Dev Жыл бұрын
as someone that tried countless generations of AI art, no not possible not without super heavy editing that is so much more work that you better of draw the whole thing to look better. The details, even just a flower pattern will be soo messed up beyond comprehension if you use AI, the strings will never even connect to each other properly and the references to historical fasion, emblem, flag, stylized proportions all almost impossible because AI can't understand meaning of it.

oh my god! I didn’t expect you to pick up this game! I’ve been playing in the Chinese server for the past 6 months and I will say the plot is pretty dang good in the main storyline, the voice acting is great and has intriguing characters. Even if you don’t end up liking the gameplay it’s still fun to look into the history of some characters, like how Pavia is based on werewolf legends, John Titor is a reference and speaks in hexadecimal…Sonetto is a form of Italian poetry I believe.
@jamesjarrett5499 Жыл бұрын
I just realized why sonetto’s style of speaking is so familiar and why it doesn’t bother me-Eleven from Stranger things. Speaks with strange and rigid syntax, not really robotic, not totally emotionless… more like lack of experience or confidence. That’s actually in character for her. I did see something on the r99 Reddit that mentioned the English has been in the game since day one, and the reason it seems like poor localization is that it was written by non native English speakers with very little input on what sounds wrong or out of place. Thus we get fluent English voice active over extremely strange writing. The English va isn’t totally better by chapter 3-4 but it does seriously improve. I wonder if after all the input during global launch if they will work to correct the strange writing in the English version.

I'm honestly surprised you ran this in Japanese. The English audio is honestly just barely wrong enough to be hiilarious to listen to, but good enough that it's still fun to follow. I honestly think it loses part of its charm in Japanese, considering it all has taken place in English speaking nations so far. and all the accents are just completely almost correct, yet still wrong enough to emphasize how the world has gone completely off the rails. And all the Russian spoken dialogue is actually spoken in Russian, while they cheat in Japanese. But if you dislike it THAT much, I get it. I just find it amusing that this is probably the first English dub in ages I've enjoyed in years.

I love the english voice acting. I hate Sonetto's character writing XD They wrote her speech in a very janky and odd way that it feels like she's struggling against her own words rather than talking naturally which kinda sucks cause you'd think someone as structured and knowledgeable as her would be able to speak comfortably and it kinda breaks her character consistency. It's also interesting to hear from the perspective of someone who is a voice actor that the English voice acting is bad since the english voicework is what initially drew me to Reverse: 1999 along with its character art and story. I'm so used to hearing English voice acting with no accents or dialects except for American/Southern American or Japanese voice acting which has a tendency to be a bit copy+paste from character to character (though I am aware that there are differences but none that are immediately noticeable to the nonnative speaker that I am).
@floofzykitty5072 Жыл бұрын
To me she appears autism coded, and the "struggling against her own words" you hear is how they express that she's a very restrained character. I'm not sure how much you've seen, but she only puts on the front of being extremely capable. As early as the beginning of Act 2 you can see that she often relies on Vertin for acts of initiative because she is always relying on the data bank within her head which does not always account for the situation at hand. That's not to say she isn't reliable or capable, but being fresh onto the field she is still developing her practical sense and initiative.

The game was developed by a CN company named BluePoch 深蓝互动. It was doing okay in the CN market, so the developer thought it would do okay in the global market. In fact, the game tried to appeal to CN players with its authentic British accent voiceover. However, for English-speaking players, the dialog looks somewhat off (as mentioned in the stream), because, in my opinion, the original scripts are written in Chinese and translated to English. For example, at 27:47, "Could we go there by bus?". But I am not a native English speaker, so correct me if I am wrong.
