I have not too many drum pads, five of them to be exact. And I played the back of all of them.
By the way, some of these are freestyle snare drum licks and they might come up in upcoming freestyle videos.

READ THE WHOLE THING PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏 Dear lucid nightmare Alright look, bit of a long comment here, but this really needs to be said. Not sure how old you are, but there's a lot of things you need to work on. First of all, not even related to your playing, never record in a place that's backlit like in Freestyle snare drum lick 6 (Most of these comments are from after viewing that video). Instead, I would recommend turning around, or closing the blinds with another, brighter light source in front of you. Now for your playing. The worst thing is your technique. The most important thing is to stay relaxed, you are very obviously tightening up, whether you know it or not. If you are relaxed, your playing will automatically get better. You are also severely crushing notes, especially the diddles and buzzes in Freestyle snare drum lick 6. Now I'll break down each hand. First your right (matched grip). You are very inconsistent to start. I believe this is mostly due to you having no instructor. You change your grip on the stick after every few measures so I'll try and teach you how to properly hold the stick. Start by finding the balance point of the stick. On Vic Firth sticks you put your thumb on the flag so the tip is slightly below the H in Firth. Next, wrap your pointer finger around the back of the stick so your thumb and pointer finger make a T shape. This is your fulcrum point and it's where the stick rotates. Finally, gently wrap the rest of your fingers around the stick. They shouldn't really come off the stick while your playing. However, this is a big issue for you. Your fingers should remain on the stick at all times with very little gaps in between them. You also have a habit of extending your pointer finger sometimes while your playing. This is very bad, for it breaks the T shape of your fulcrum. Never do this. Remember to stay relaxed at all times while doing this. I would talk about your left hand (traditional grip), but that would take way too long, and you can find a good tutorial online. Until you can properly play with matched grip, stop playing traditional, because it is much harder. Now I could go on for hours talking about stick heights and velocity, but I feel what I have covered is the foundation of drumming, and you should not be learning harder music until you get your technique good. One last thing, when your playing buzzes you are so tense you only get a few bounces out of the buzz (crushing it), this is why your buzz rolls sound so bad, and disconnected. If you relax you can get more notes out of the buzz, and your rolls will sound much more connected, and smoother. Same thing goes for diddles, but instead of more notes, you open up the diddle more, raising the height of the second note. Right now it sounds like you are playing an accent and a tap, instead of two equal notes. I really hope you see this, let alone actually read the whole thing, because you will greatly improve if you listen to me. Sorry this was a billion words, but it was really necessary because your not as good as you can be right now. THIS IS ALL MEANT AS CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, AND I'M NOT HATING ON YOU AT ALL. If you don't wish to take my advice then that's on you, but I'm truly trying to help you get better, especially if you want to make your schools drumline, snare line, center snare, dca, dci, wgi or any other position in your drumming career. Also I have subscribed because I'm looking forward to watching you (hopefully) improving. Have a good morning, Austin.

Hello Austin, I'd like to say that this is really useful information as I don't have an instructor yet, but I do have something to say. I obviously know that the lighting is obstructing the video in "Freestyle snare drum lick 6" because I was trying to imitate the location I did in my other video, I thought that the lighting of that location was bright and easy to see. Also, I think my matched grip looks honestly fine, except for not wrapping all my fingers around the stick. However, all the other techniques you mentioned that I did wrong was actually pretty valid and I had to fix a lot of stuff. Thankfully, I did find a tutorial on how to fix my traditional grip (Hopefully I understand everything the video instructed me to do) but I'm still learning how to do my buzz roll and my double stroke rolls, so hopefully I'll improve. I also won't be joining any kind of positions in my drumming career right now, by the way. PS: I did not read this comment before I upload the Zackgroove's lick video. I turned the comments off without realizing and while I was editing the video, I stumbled upon your criticism.

@@lucidnightmaredreamAh I see. First I want to thank you for actually seeing this because most people like you just ignore it. You are correct about matched grip, your only real issue is keeping all your fingers on the stick. I would recommend learning a few basic warmups if you haven't already such a 8s/8-8-16/Legato 8s and triplet rolls/short short long/chicken and a roll. These will really help you improve your technique off camera. Then you can play the flashy stuff on camera like you have been doing.
